At 32:12 regarding the ground; That should be a ribbon cable grounding to the head. That ribbon ground will help with RF interference with the radio. Very much appreciate the video, guys. Did a great job on the run-throug.

Like the video, I am putting parts on an engine I bought to place in a 2003 jeep wrangler sport. Could you tell me where I could find those metal inserts that go inside the grommet.

At 16:43 of the video we remove them from the old valve cover grommets clean them and place the inserts into the new provided grommets. If you need them the dealer may be able to get them for you. Hope this helps you out.

I need help! Currently working on mine (Jeep GC 2000 V8 4.7) and I’m afraid to tighten the bolts even more. Haynes manual calls for about 105 in-lbs (Which is less than 10 ft-lbs). I think that’s about hand tight which I already did now, but 2 things concern me right now. 1. The bolts don’t look as flush down as the other valve cover (Haven’t touched it yet) 2. I can still see a bit of blue from the gasket. Shouldn’t the valve cover squeeze it down I didn’t use a torque wrench because of limited space. I feel like it needs more tightening but I’m scared of breaking a bolt 😩

Hey coolant is low then full again... On grand cherokee 4.0 what's up? Changed engine oil, nothing milky to insinuate blown head gasket (what I have been reading).. no milky under radiator cap, nor in radiator... Any ideas ?

No you do not need to drain the oil if you are just replacing the valve cover gasket. Hope this helps you out.

The valves were fine. If you take the valve cover off and you fine a lot of burnt oil and crud sitting on everything you could use a shop vac to carefully remove it. Hope this helps you out.

You do not need an air ratchet you can use a regular ratchet. I've used a shop vaccum before if there is a lot of burnt oil on the rockers. Hope this helps you out.

I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee and in the wiring harness along the firewall behind the engine I have found 6 exposed wires that were melted together what in the world would cause this ?

I have a 2002 grand Cherokee 4.0L. I was chasing a bunch of vacuum leaks from brittle hoses and when using throttle body cleaner to detect changes in rev I noticed big revs when spraying along the backside seam of the valve cover. Occasionally I'll hear a high pitched whistling that comes and goes. Not to mention the block is pretty wet and dirty. Also having a misfire code for cylinder 6, assuming it's from improper fuel/air ratio due to sucking air through the leaky VC, or even oil dripping into the spark plug well. Any help/advice is appreciated as I plan on replacing the gaskets and possibly the whole cover assembly asap. I also notice the ports for the PCV hose are cracked and loose which cannot be good I'd imagine, hence why I figured it'd be best to just get a whole new kit, and buy the PCV hose assembly separately.

what are the torque specs ??

Online resources are saying that it is 85 INCH lbs. Start from the middle of the valve cover and work your way in a criss cross pattern towards the ends. Use a blue Felpro gasket. Hope this helps you out.

We used a new gasket. The gasket is what seals the valve cover to the head.

@@HomeOwnerRepair ok thx I just bought the new gasket and was told by the parts store to use sealent too but I gave him a look because of the rubber stops on the cover andvyou cannot tighten hard to let the sealent mesh

A little too detailed well done however always put the most difficult/in this case rear bolt in first far less likely to Cross thread lots of wiggle room that way
