Aight. I just did this, here's some feedback: 1) Replace the upper intake gaskets while you're doing this. Makes sense. 2) To remove ignition coil seals from the cover, just buy a seal removal tool from Harbor Freight. You can mar up the seal surface if you use a screwdriver. 3) Proper torque specs! 8.7 ft/lbs for valve cover bolts (5 ea). 16 ft/lbs for intake manifold (the 12mm ones). 8.7 ft/lbs for the upper intake cover screws. 4) The ignition coils have their own seal/boot at the top. You might consider getting a set of those as well. (1 of the 6 on mine was jacked up, so I replaced it. If I'd planned better, I would've got 6 total).

@@friendnfamily9053 What I meant was, this video was good and thought I'd add a few things for the next person to do it. This video gave me the confidence to tackle this myself. I did have to slow it down a couple times 😀to figure out how you disconnected some stuff. Honestly, that was the hardest part of the job...getting some of those connectors disconnected. I did end up breaking a valve cover bolt because I overtorqued it so that's why I wanted to mention the correct torques. Thx again.

Want to ask you if replacing all the valve gasket, does the RPM and the ECM computer need to be recommunicate. Or need to do anything after replacing the gaskets.😊 I have a MDX Acura 2003

This is such a great reference video. Thank you for sharing it. In the beginning, you talked about engine codes (e.g. J35A7). Where can I find this number? Also, the gasket that you are holding at time 20:14, did you have to replace this with a new one? What do you call this gasket? Thanks for the help.
@friendnfamily90532 жыл бұрын
Hi, at the time of 20:14, the gasket is called lower intake plenum gasket. I didn't replace mine, and didn't an issue reusing the old one. About the engine code, I think the auto part store identified the engine code based on the model of the van, but I will see if I can locate the code on the engine.

@@friendnfamily9053 It's so kind of you to respond so quickly. I really appreciate the support. I'm still kind of reluctant to do this myself, but you're building my courage. Rest assured that if I decided to do it and messed up, that you will NOT be liable for my troubles. My reluctance comes from not having a torch wrench and not knowing the torch specs. I can only imagine what people are going to say about that. Anyway, thank you so much for the useful info.

I'm thinking about changing the front gasket. Looks like the valve cover should come right off without removing the intake manifold? Any thoughts? Thanks.

You can't get the top bolt out without pulling the intake plenum
@timguy1612 ай бұрын
@@codymartin6704 Not true. I did it without touching the intake plenum. A cable tie tip got stuck underneath the gasket. I found this out 1.5 years later. So I did it second time with a new gasket for front end (Bank 2). Due to prior experience, the 2nd job took less than 30 min.

What a fantastic video!👍 This is the definition of tender loving care, which your vehicle will receive only from you, never at a paid repair shop. Been trying to gather the courage to get into this territory (I have an 08 Pilot, the engine looks identical), and this video is great help. The only scary part was the portion from 18:00 min till 20:00 min. Looks fantastic though afterwards. What cleaning agent were you spraying at 18:30. I guess that and the relatively strong looking water spray following it are safe (especially for the coils and other electrical parts) ? And for how long did you let the engine dry after that? Thank you🙏
@friendnfamily90532 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for watching! I was using engine degreaser in spray cans bought from AutoZone. Used it before and didn't have any issue. After the cleaning, I let the engine dry for an hour or so. May want to check out these videos also related to engine cleaning: fnf48, fnf271, fnf54 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/rafJYptvpL2XbJo)

Great video! Where did you get your gaskets from? Any recommended brand?
@friendnfamily90533 жыл бұрын
Hi, I got it from AutoZone. Sorry for not being sure about the brand. AutoZone used to have options for their parts, and I normally go with higher price one.
