~INPORTANT NOTE~ DO NOT ATTEMPT to take motor out by itself! Nothing broken, plenty of icepacks in the 'fridge (as my roommate just had a knee replacement), 10mg Oxycodones too! Without this video, I'd still be wondering. Very useful video I followed it just about to every explanation. Though I approached it differently, because of my situation. Such as I didn't have to take the rivets that hold part of the regulator track onto the window. There's another way of going around that for those of you that don't have the proper tool to take off both rivets. I simply installed the regulator with the motor separate, as shown. lubed it with multipurpose grease and shoved the regulator and motor into the door first leaving everything unscrewed. Next fed the window into the door that still has the riveted track on it and had a buddy hold it for me. I then bent the little metal parts on the windows track as shown in the video to be able to slide both black parts into the track. Being that this was the passenger window, I believe I slide the left black piece in first then had my buddy shift the window to the left so I can put the right black piece on the opposite side of the window track. Once they're in I bent the metal parts back and started assembling and screwing everything back in but the two last metal track pieces that come off the regulator first. When you get to the two separate track pieces, you may have to plug the motor back into the door and turn the key to power the car for a sec. Why? Because the regulator may not be aligned right when installed, so while you have a buddy hold the window in case something goes wrong, either press the window button up or down to the correct position you need the regulator to sit in so you can screw in the final track pieces starting with the curved one first. Feed the curved track onto the black wheel looking piece on the window's bracket and screwed it into the door, the two screw mounts should be towards the top and the single one towards the bottom. Lastly install the straight metal track last feeding it through the single black rectangular piece on the regulator. Then just install both the metal and felt brackets back in as shown in the video. That's just basically how I had done it and everything works as according I'm proud of of both myself and my buddy, being that we're amateurs. And I really don't have the money to have a professional fix it. I paid 47 dollars for my regulator, Motor, and Window glass with a warranty included on the motor and regulator from my local pick-a-part. For those of you that are afraid to do this themselves. Believe me it's more simpler with two people, so you have two brains working together. It's a lot easier than it looks, especially with the help of this video. Though you may need to make some adjustments yourselves, but you'll get it. Just take things slow. It took us roughly 5 hours to get the old one out and the new one in.

@petrocksgarage2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the one-touch-down feature threw me for a loop when I first experienced it. I have gotten used to it over the years, and find myself using it on purpose all the time. There are definitely uses for it (e.g. roll down going to a toll boot, drive through, to air out a hot car), but there is a bit of a learning curve on how much the switch needs to be pressed etc. A friends '21 Chevy Blazer has one-touch-down & one-touch-up. So its only becoming more prevalent. As for bypassing it, there likely is a way to bypass it but I don't know how. Good luck.

Great video, and thanks so much for taking the time to share. I do have a question if I may- What tells the auto feature to stop going up or stop going down? Or for that matter what tells the manual power button on the passenger side the same thing? My drivers window on my 94 Cobra won't stop on it's own. I have to make sure I manually release the switch when the window reaches full travel up or down or it bangs about trying to go further. I previously replaced that module inside the door panel with a new Ford part a cuple of years ago and have just put up with it since.
@petrocksgarage6 ай бұрын
I haven't seen a circuit diagram for the internals of the auto up/down feature, but my edumacated guess is that it relies on the property of electric motors where when the motor gets stuck and can't spin the amp draw goes through the roof. When the window hits the bump stops at the top or bottom of the door and stops moving the electric motor will start to strain to overcome what's blocking it and the amps will spike as a result. After you press the button to activate the feature the module thing in the door that I show in the video is probably monitoring the circuit for that amp spike. When it sees the amp spike it opens the circuit to stop the motor & window. But thats just a guess. As for your window problem, I can't really tell without looking at it, but I would guess that you are missing one or both bump stops at the top of the door (where the window comes out). They are supposed to stop the window from going up too far. There are similar stops at the bottom to make it not retract too far. I have a video on how to adjust these windows that shows all the bump stops you should have. Good luck. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e163faujhZZlh7s

It is hard to say if that wedge is your problem. Most of the parts to the regulator are metal. It might be one of the horizontal guides the window follows. Its hard to say. Your best option is to take the door panel off and cycle the window up/down a few times to see where/why it starts to tilt. Good luck.

It might help. But this sounds like the window isn't hitting the bump stop at the bottom of the door. If so the auto-down control unit won't know when to stop the window. Alternatively, the auto-down control unit (the blue box in my video) may be defective. Good luck.

can you tell me how the window itself is held in is it riveted or screwed through the window or is there a special sealer that you use to set the window into the track on the back side of the door closest to the back seat I can't seem to get the window to stay in that track and I can't find a sealant that will hold it there
@petrocksgarage9 жыл бұрын
+Phil D, I touch on this a little in the video. But the window has metal brackets glued onto it. Those brackets are riveted from the factory onto the window regulator. If the window regulator or window was ever replaced, it is common to replace the rivets with nuts/bolts. The front of the window (closest to the mirror) slides up & down a channel in the door frame via a little tab. The rear of the window (closest to the door handle) slides up and down a channel in the door frame via a little plastic wheel/bearing thing. Is kind of hard to explain, but its all outlined in the video. If the window doesn’t stay in the track then the regulator may be bent, or the bracket attached to the window is bent or any number of other things. I can’t diagnose it from my keyboard. Best to take the door panel off and have a look inside. Hope that helps & good luck...

Very nice video. I've notice that after removing the lower/shorter horizontal bracket of the regulator that the regulator doesn't collapse. Why doesn't the "scissor" part of the regulator collapse until you push the regulator studs in from the door frame? I can't picture it. If my windows is all the way down and my motor is burnt out, as a temporary solution to have the windows closed, is it possible to lift the window up or will the motor/regulator prevent me from doing that without removing the regulator studs? Thanks!
@petrocksgarage8 жыл бұрын
It doesn't collapse because there is a large spring built into the regulator that is holding tension on the regulator and the motor is holding everything in position. You can see what I'm talking about during the part where I swap the motors between the old & new regulators (around 11:08). Hope that helps.

I actually replaced the stock window in this car with one from a junk yard because one of those brackets came loose. This could be a bunch of different things. Hi, so I just bought my own mustang with a broken motor (the guys said it was) and I took the regulator out and saw that there was no motor at all in there, I also can not find the one touch box. I plugged in my new motor just to see if it would work and no. Which I assumed since I can't find the blue box, it must not be there. So, my question does this exist on the 99? As well as if that is not the problem (also my other window works so it's not the fuse) what else could it be?
@petrocksgarage9 жыл бұрын
JohnBoyM16, my wife’s mustang is a ’98, so I assume ’99s have the one-touch thing too. There will be an empty plug in the wiring harness in the same spot as on my wife’s if your car came with one. If the box is missing the motor will not work. If you have the wiring diagram you could bypass the one-touch box but you will lose the one-touch feature on the drivers side. I’d advise hitting up a junk yard for the new (to you) one-touch box. Good luck...

the method is slightly different from year to year, and interior options. There are a bunch of videos on how to do it online. Its pretty easy for the most part. IMS, there is only one hidden screw behind the door handle cover or the window up/down switch cluster thing. Two or three visible screws on the very bottom and that's about it. Pop off the triangle cover piece by the mirror. Pull up on the panel an inch or two to release the hooks on the door panel and slowly pull the door away a few inches. Peak inside and disconnect any electrical connections. Then you are pretty much done. Good luck.

I guess you skipped over the first couple seconds of this video where I explain why I did what I did in the video. It is to show how to either replace the motor or replace the entire window regulator. Either way, there is more then one way to skin a cat. Use whatever technique works best for you.

Check out 0:50 through 1:25. The video is also to show how to replace the window regulator, not just the motor. Also, the stock speaker is riveted in at the factory and is a P.I.T.A. to remove. Yours probably has been replaced at some point so was probably held in via bolts. So it would be easier for you to remove the speaker then it would be for most people with the stock speakers. Then if you do get the speaker out you are working blind in the door cavity. My videos are geared towards novices to intermediates and they typically aren't very good at working by feel. Its also pretty hard to get a video camera in the door cavity and be able to film the job. Then you have the problem of the speaker whole not being that big. So some people may have difficulty getting there arm in the door cavity and manipulate a wrench & motor in the first place. For example, I'm a former competitive power lifter and as a result my arms don't fit into openings like that very easily. Either way, use whatever technique works for you. There is more then one way to skin a cat.

Just wondering, what model are you talking about, and yes, hole is plenty big, even I am weightlifter too,....yes, you can easily pull motor out of speaker hole, if speaker is riveted, maybe different story! peace, man, good job=)

PITA repair. LAWWD HAVE MERCY THIS IS AWFUL. Ive done many repairs but damn this is so tedious.

I go a little above & beyond in the video with swapping out the motor, but if you skip that part and replace the regulatOr as a unit it isn't that bad.

problem was cheap ford and their adhesive glued brackets on the window came loose, so now off to the junk yard for a new window... --_--
@petrocksgarage6 жыл бұрын
I had that happen on this car too a while ago. But it was caused by the window not being properly aligned and not seating properly in the window frame when all the way up. It was hitting/catching the weather stripping when you closed the door. That caused the window to be pushed outwards putting a lot of stress on those brackets glued to the window. I replaced the window with one from the junk yard, replaced the door hinge pins (which was the cause of the mis-alignment, realigned the window and haven't had an issue since. If your window isn't seating properly check the hinge pins and/or window alignment. I have videos covering both. Hope that helps.

Ive already watched that video actually, your channel has proved very useful for us stang owners. :D Also when you went to the junker to remove the window all you had to do was take off the pins that stop the window from going high and punch in the tab on the rail so you can wiggle the window with the bracket off of the regulator hooks right?
@petrocksgarage6 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot. I appreciate it. Re junker: yeah, that is one way to do it. Alternatively you can bring a battery for a 12V cordless drill and some wire with alligator clips and use the wires + battery to power the motor up/down till the bolts for the window mounting brackets are accessible. Hope that helps.

Mine is riveted into the door. Lol
@petrocksgarage Жыл бұрын
Interesting. Should be easy enough to use a drill to 'drill' the head of the rivet off so you can take it apart. Just have some replacement nuts/bolts available ahead of time, of course. Good luck.

@@petrocksgarage yea apparently the first year of the new body style (the 94s) came with them riveted.
@petrocksgarage Жыл бұрын
@@cavdrkz24, yeah, that sounds familiar. It's not unheard of. I've seen riveted window regulators by other manufacturers too.
