Window Motor Replacement Ford Mustang 1994-2004

To anyone who is no professional by any means that's about to try this: Do not let freeing the motor make you think that's the hardest part! Super easy! I was able to reach behind the speaker and through the bigger whole to the left and use both hands to push the motor off the teeth. I was literally hugging the door lol. The Speaker removal feels extra but is a great idea for reach. I was lucky enough that the motor and teeth sorta fell into place, which made the starting top bolt easy to get in and hold the motor as a guide. Total install took me about 20 min. Got my part from a local Autozone. Thank you, DJG!

@@dannyjohnsonsgarage I tried the motor on Amazon you had listed. When I bolt it up I can maybe get 2 out of 3 bolts it’s like the motor was not thick enough. When I tried it out I would spin but not link up with the window. I tried to put the stock back in but it seems to be too thick to get back in. I hope I didn’t snug the aftermarket one up too much where I closed the gap between the bracket and door

Thank you so much for this video! I just did this on my 04 GT today. Followed your instructions and also loosened but did NOT remove the two nuts for the regulator close to the window motor bolts like others have mentioned. It was a piece of cake. Took all of 30 or 45 minutes to finish and ive never done a window motor before. Excellent how to video!

If you loosen to two nuts that are go to the regulator next to the motor it comes out much easier. I replaced mine with a doorman with a lifetime warranty for $60. It is a little thinner so it is easier to install. Works perfect now.

Great job. On my mach 1 when the window motor froze, I took the door panel off and lightly tapped the circular part of the motor that you can see through the hole and it unbound the motor and freed it up.

I finally fixed my daughters window! I had a new motor for drivers side and wouldn’t you know it was the wrong motor! I recalled your tip on tapping old motor part and success! Now my daughter has both windows working! Now I just have to figured out the ac blowing hot!

If you would have loosened the bolts holding the regulator on, the window motor would have been easier to pull out. Just a helpful tip. Those would be the golden/brass 8/10mm bolts you see in the panel. Also, if you have a heat gun you can heat up the factory insulation (white plastic stuff) and pull it off the door. Just try not to overheat it and get it on your hands. The glue holding it on is very sticky. This way you can go ahead and just put the insulation back on and not tear it.

Thank you for making and posting this video! I'm extremely new to car diy and I just tried this on my 2004 Mustang V6 3.9L driver window. The tapping trick worked but only for maybe 2 minutes while I was testing the motor and then movement of the window. Thankfully I had not put everything back before finding this out. Mostly when I left the car on the direct sunlight It 💯 wouldn't work ,it's like it needed to cool down. Would a new motor fix that kind of problem? Because that was happening to my current car before it got stuck

lah2174 The window is riveted on to the track, so you would need to either fix the rivets, or possibly use a nut and bolt in its place

Great video, hoping your still reading comments, for the rear windows I can find motors for them, on rockauto and any auto parts store/website it says the rear and front are the same part, but I can only find regulators for the front windows, doesn't seem the rear windows have regulators, or at least can't find them on any website and can't find any info on this, so my question is do the rear windows have regulators at all and I stead have another system?

I haven’t owned a convertible and haven’t seen, but I imagine they also have a window motor. The left and right are side specific, but you can disassemble them and use the base for either side if that at all helps. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJiwmYmLibRkY6c

Does the window have to be in the up position when replacing the motor, and if so. Do you need to find a way 2 lock the window in place so it dont fall when you pull the motor?

The window needs to be up so the glass isn’t down in the door and in the way as I recall. Other than that it didn’t seem to fall because the regulator is moved by the motor and it’s still holding it

That makes it a bit tricky. The window only really moves if the motor is out. You can try swapping switches and slamming the door to get it to work again, but if not, you may need to disassemble the window track. Can’t tell you for sure kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZqjOd6ZnmryNbqc

M M Correct. I used my video I already had for removing the door panel since that video covered the mach tweeter and my GT didn’t have it. When possible I like to give the more complex steps so people who have the mach audio system know what to do 😉 Just take it slow and follow the video’s steps and you should be fine. My window motor just needed a little tap and it worked again, but needs that often, so a new one doesn’t hurt.

Not a mechanic genious, but maybe follow steps to unbolt the wondow motor and pulll the window up. Then re-connect the window motor (or hit the motor to free it as stated in video) to leave your window at fully closed position?. Best logic i can give. Hopefully i can help out. 👍

I noticed that on the 96 and up its a little bit easier to get out than the 94-95. I think the metal on the door was slightly different. I changed both my drivers motors on my 94 gt and my 96 cobra. The metal frame was a tighter fit on the 94-95's. Im a pro at changing s many of these on foxes and sn95's,lol

Use painters tape to keep the window up . Somebody else it's hard to see But yes the window needs to be up. Secondly I went through the speaker hole and the other hole between the 2 it went right in. This isn't hard at all

Driver side and passenger side are specific, so make sure it’s the right one, next, look at how it should sit as I show it in the video. Next, you may need to wiggle it a bit (or even move the widow down a little so the teeth line up

My driver side window wouldnt roll down and banged on the motor and i got it to roll down but now its not rolling back up. I took the switch panel off cause i thought maybe the switch was not working and when i put it back on none of my windows are working now. I replaced the 20a circut fuse under the driver sides fuse panel and the fuse under the hood was good and nothing is working still. Any ideas?
