Just a hint before you remove the coils. Use compressed air to blow away any debris around them. You don't want any of that getting down the sparkplug hole.

This . Also, when removing the bolt for the intake manifold that is located underneath the wiring harness, there is actually a clip holding the wiring harness snug in it's current location. If you undo the clip you will be able to put the harness to the side for ease of access to the bolt head.

Tip for you: no need to use the screw driver to take out those intake duct clips - they might have "seized" , as you experienced, or worn out in the screw driver slot. Instead employ a 10 mm socket with your ratchet and loosen with zero stress. This should apply for practically any Toyota intake duct clip screw.

Great video. thanks man! I'm in Waterloo ON and have a 2007 IS350. Awesome car except for the pvc based components in and on it. Dash all cracked up, and mushy door panels. Outside, the rubber is all suffering from dry rot, and window trim is peeling off. Other than that, pretty decent car. Just lost an led segment on my tach meter. So I guess that will be another project at some point. Mine only has 158k on it. I had a 1992 Celica GTS, and never had any issues like this with that car. It was bullet proof.

Modern spark plugs like Denso and NGK have a anti seize coating applied to the threads! You DO NOT want to apply the anti seize to the plugs that are brand new out of the box. The manufacturer will tell you this if you take the time to call. Other than that great video.
@jcgeorge_
@jcgeorge_ 3 жыл бұрын
NordicPride970 hmm. So based on this, I have some questions.. I was advised to use nickel based anti seize and to use ~20% less torque to compensate for that. I did both (Lexus recommends 18 ft lb, I applied 15 ft lb). If this was indeed wrong, what are the outcomes? I’ve severely under torqued them? Will they heat up more and wear out quicker? Should I take them out and “redo” the whole process? Thanks.
@nordicpride9708
@nordicpride9708 3 жыл бұрын
John George If you have any doubts simply go through and make sure they are all seated and snug. The plugs won’t wear out faster. That’s a function of erosion caused by heat and electricity. Obviously you want to be sure the plugs are properly seated. Removing them isn’t necessary as they are likely fine. Just understand that you are the one who must decide what action to take. I don’t know your mechanical background and if you have ever tightened a spark plug by hand. If you aren’t comfortable doing said procedure you should have a professional double check it. That said most people don’t use torque wrenches at that low of a torque value because 9 times out of 10 you will OVERTORQUE the fastener(in this case a spark plug). Only high dollar torque wrenches are accurate at this level. So most mechanics hand tighten the plugs. I just wish more people spread the word that anti seize for spark plugs is a antiquated practice. If you in fact under torqued the plugs that’s easily checked and remedied.
@jcgeorge_
@jcgeorge_ 3 жыл бұрын
@@nordicpride9708 Ahh fair enough. My torque wrench is rated +/-4% but even that I doubt, as you said its not a professional wrench. Anyhow, now that I know what I've done and how much force I've applied, I'll just monitor it and make amends during the next change based on the state of the plugs/threads then. Thanks for the detailed reply!

for anyone who owns an is250, can you guys provide me with feedback on where I made my mistake? i had done a spark plug replacement job on my is. replaced the spark plugs on the passenger side, drove the vehicle, and didn't experience any complications whatsoever. the day after, went on the other side to remove the manifold on the driver's side but couldn't remove it due to what could be a stripped bolt so I left it alone and put back all the screws and nuts back in place. the vehicle ran funny and I noticed that where the fuel line that he mentions in the video 17:34 started smoking and was kind of moist. resulted in the car shutting down. how do I go about fixing this issue? should also mention that the washer for the screw on the fuel line had fell.

Ok. I went through this whole job and almost had to throw in the towel. A few things that worked for me that might help out the next guy: - Have a shop vac ready. Much easier to remove debris with a vacuum than with compressed air. - Have a magnet retrieval tool. I used it to extract loosened bolts and the old spark plugs. That tool was a life saver. - The intake bolts are hot garbage. This is the part I almost had to give up on. Have a plan to extract them if they don't turn. And plan on replacing all 6 of the Allen nuts with M6-1.0X25mm flanged hex bolts from Oriely's (part number: 980-225D) AND/OR M6-1.0X30mm hex bolt (part #: 981-230D) These go in way easier and will save the next guy who has to take that manifold off. I had two bolts completely round off on me. And the other 4 will never be able to be fully torqued again. One I even broke the end of a Allen key socket inside of it. Using the magnet tool and a flat screwdriver I was able to remove the broken end of the socket. I ended up using a regular Allen key and channel locks to remove that one, and the other I had to use a framing hammer to drive an oversized torque bit into the head. That somehow worked. If it didn't I'd be trying to find a screw extraction kit that would fit down in there. - The 12mm bolt all the way in the back of the manifold was not too bad. I used the closed end of a 12mm wrench (longer one makes it easy) just to crack it loose. Didn't take much effort. It wasn't on tight. Then I worked it out with a socket and my fingers. Reverse this process when installing. - Don't worry about completely removing the manifold. Once I got it loose I just lifted it up as high as I could and stuck my impact gun under it to prop it up. Far too many wiring harnesses and hoses attach to that thing to remove it all the way. Hope this helps somebody! Good luck!

All you need to do is unclip the hardness running along the manifold so you can move it freely. When you look at the Insulator neck and see orange scoring, the plug is overheating. Check the gap also when you remove them; should be .043", if the gap has opened greater than - that would cause misfires as well. Also, the Manifold overhang on the driver's side isn't a problem with the 350. You showed ONLY the 250.

The car has a slight miss fire and I am planning to change the plugs in a few weeks - so watched this video and was just thinking how easy it was working on cars build before 2000... damn - I had a 1994 Citroen XM 3.0 V6 and I changed all 6 plugs in around 30 minutes - not to mention all inline 4 cylinders I had were a treat to work on. The 4GR engine seems to be a nightmare to work on - not looking forward for that

you’re well overdue for a change. they should be replaced every 60,000 miles. coils are overdue for replacement as well, which last around 80,000-100,000 miles. your transmission fluid is also likely overdue in this case, also done every 100,000 miles. only drain and fill that, never flush

FYI you don't need to remove the intake manifold to replace the spark plugs. If you move that wiring harness if should give you enough room. I just did it following another video's instructions. All you need is a 10 mm joint socket or wrench to get to one bolt. Also it only took me about 2 hours to do the whole job using this method.

could also be the coils. i’ve been dealing with P0300 for 4 months. plugs didn’t do it, im replacing 3 coils and the PCV first. it could also be carbon buildup. get the intake valves manually cleaned. clean the MAF sensor and throttle body as well. all of these can cause cylinder misfires.

you do not need to remove the intake manifold for the right side plugs, just get a 10mm universal socket for the coil closest to you and way you go.

@@carswithsonduren you didn't have to remove the intake manifold to replace the driver side spark plugs. All you needed was a 10mm short and thin profile socket on an extension to get to the plug bolt hiding under the plenum. I replaced mine today on my is350. Good video tho but hated that you had to go thru that extra trouble 😁

10:43 I'm not a pro, but just an idea: When hand screwing small bolts/nuts it a good idea to use thinner gloves (or no gloves) thicker gloves make it easier to lose your grip on bolts/nuts. You'll regret it when dropping them in between those tight spaces. When untightening tough parts then yes, these thicker gloves he's wearing are a good idea to prevent those unexpected painful abrasions, cuts, scratches on your hands that make you say, "Ah Fuc*, son of a fuckin* bitc*"!!"😂
