Awesome work brother, one thing we were taught at Lexus IS the throttle body plate can be moved as long as the key is NOT engaged because once it’s powered on it’s moved slightly forward for idle therefore the plastic gear is under tension . And yes they are extremely pricey better off grabbing a junkyard one at a quarter of the cost. Love your content brother

Thank you! It was pretty simple to do once that intake was off. Too bad Toyota used those 5mm Allen bolts down the intake. Have you ever had one break off? And if so, what did you do to remove it?

@@bundysgarage yes many especially being up here in the rust belt (Pennsylvania) then it’s an hour ordeal for 1 damn screw! I normally just replace them all with regular heads especially since most vehicles we work on a under warranty so u count on them coming back. Oh and Toyota has adopted this new deal if there’s evidence of (never seizes) on plugs it’s not under warranty so be careful if ur working on someone’s vehicle who’s still under warranty. Ur an awesome mechanic bro love ur down to earth approach

Times like these is when I wish I still had a 4 cylinder where the spark plugs are BOOM right there in the engine bay. No need to remove ANYTHING. Despite how much of a main my Ford was, spark plug changes were the easiest thing in the world.

The hard part of the job is removing the upper plastic plenum. While you're in there, remove the lower aluminum plenum and clean the six butterfly valves. Check your intake valves to see if they need cleaning. Might want to change the PCV valve since you went through so much work to get to it. A clean Direct injection engine runs great and gets very good gas mileage.

Just did this- replaced coils and plugs- and then once I put it back together, and it wouldn't even start. So I'm assuming (and really hoping) that I just missed a plug (like that back plug behind the manifold), otherwise it's back to the drawing board!

amazing work, without this video i dont think i would have been able to change spark plug.... In the video at 19:58 whats that wiring harness called. i yanked on the intake a little too hard and the wires came out. I guess i have to replace it. I would highly appreciate it, if anyone knows whats it called. Thank you.

You might need to check with a Lexus dealership to find out where that harness starts and where it ends.

Nice video I only have less than 30 miles so far on 2014. Wondering if you took a look at the carbon deposits on the valves while you had that all apart? I put catch can on to minimize that problem but will still have a peek at spark plug time.

It's not about Lexus it's about Direct injection engines in general. Lexus has already moved away from stand alone direct injection and combined it with port injection. Any brand of car with direct injection is subject to carbon fouling of the intake valves.

@paulbeck1203 they should have fixed it on the second generation. My 3rd generation still has the carbon problem that was supposedly fixed with a redesigned pcv system and pistons/rings. I think there is some sort of 7th injector on the plenum, too, that is for carbon build-up, but who knows. You are correct about gdi engines, and it will be my last. I also don't like how lexus put their power valve in the intake manifild. It should be inside the upper plenum like older toyotas I've worked on

Hi Bundy! About Those bent nose pliers at 8:00, are those your go-to pliers for removing clips? Which would you pick between a straight duckbill or bent nose duckbill pliers for removing clips?

These are not my go to pliers. I rarely use the 90 degree bent ones. In the video I used them only to reach the bottom of the clip where the clip release was pointing down. I use the straights all the time, so if I was going to go with one pair, it would be the straight one. Here is a good set with all 3 types: amzn.to/3t2bM4q

A lot of is250’s are missing that bolt , if you install an air oil separator they will send you out the bolt ( highly recommend either the aos or a catch can to reduce carbon build on on the valves)

Why the hell are you using anti-seize? These plugs come zinc plated from factory which prevents them from getting stuck. One day you’re going to strip one out on accident. Good lord
