Great video, Chinese Elm one of my favourites and possibly among the most popular along with the Maple and more widely sold as Bonsai, the mistake a lot of beginners tend to make is to re pot the Elm when they get it home or had it delivered. It is much better to leave it in its pot for the first year or so. You can also inspect the tree by taking it out the pot to make sure it is not too pot bound.

Beatiful tree with a lot of character; I also think the pot is beautiful and suits the tree very well. Perhaps a bit off topic but would it be an idea to spend some video time on maintenance of our bonsaï tools? I would be very interested... As always...

Hi. Your tree is beautiful and looks good in its new pot. I have a bonsai I pruned to create some shape, and all the leaves fell off. It's a Chinese elm. If like to repot it as well but wonder if I've stressed it enough? Any quick advice? It was a bonsai that was ordered through Amazon and given as a gift.

Hello, am so happy to find your channel 😀 I actually have question...I just received elm bonsai few days ago and am thinking should I repod it...the plant is still in the transport soil and am not sure is it better to stay in it till the spring or I should repotet it in new soil I buyed special for bonsai...The plant looks ok, the soil was dry and I put water, the three was thirsty and the water drained good....am afraid not to kill it if I do the change now....can someone give me advice

It is always best to let the tree settle in and adjust to it's new environment before you re-pot.

Hey Corin, Bougtt a Chinese elm bonsai from you last Spring, which I keep indoors. Flourished until just recently. A whole new batch of shoots, n leaves come out , n whilst still green, drop off in their hundreds a week or so later. It's done this twice in the last 2 months. It's on a south/ south westerly facing windowsill, fed n watered..... although, I'm finding watering difficult to gauge since we went into winter. I don't know if I'm overwatering, or it's just low light issues because of the time of year. I know you can't give me a difinitive answer.... However, could you offer any advice as to what might be the most likely problem, please. Thank you so much... Toby .. ;0)

Probably won’t get a reply but did you grow that in 100% Akudama ? I thought you have to mix it with other things I never knew it can be done like that.

Hi I’ve been interested in bonsai for 35years and have several bonsai trees as you can imagine most of them are Japanese maples and many other outdoor trees , birch, zelkova, Scot’s pine etc, anyway I’m looking for a large Chinese elm I’ve had several in the past but I always fancied a large one, do you have any really nice trees in stock?
@greenwoodbonsaistudio2 жыл бұрын
Yes we have some larger ones here at the nursery
@dennislynn75922 жыл бұрын
Your trees are amazing and impressive the trunk on the elm is gorgeous. As a beginner I'm unsure how to choose a new pot, oval, round or oblong can you advise pls. Great work Corin 👍👍
@greenwoodbonsaistudio2 жыл бұрын
Pot selection is based on the tree / trunkline/ shape/ size / leaf colour etc.Check out our video title "why a pot matters"
@Matt66442 жыл бұрын
Is there a reason design/aesthetic wise it was potted on the left side of the pot? it seems most of the trees weight is on the left side and I would have thought to pot it on the right side of the pot to balance that out. Not a criticism, I'm only a novice, was just surprised to see that.
@greenwoodbonsaistudio2 жыл бұрын
Because the base of the trunk and initial trunk movement is from left to right. So its planted on the left to balance that movement.
