Thanks for a very sensible video - think for yourself instead of following someone else's rules! Looking at the trees in the garden behind you, reminds me that Bonsai is the creation of trees in the style we like, rather than exact copies of nature.

Bravo.

Very helpful. My question. Does the Chinese lacebark set seed in Autumn and need cold stratification? Love this knowledge you are so kind to share with us. Thank you. Please keep these videos coming. Karl

I have never tried to germinate Chinese elm since cutting is so easy. Softwood, hardened softwood, hardwood, and root cutting almost root 100% in 1/2 perlite and 1/2 vermiculite. With some rooting hormone. Seedling, however, could give you the advantage of selected cultivar. For example, I came across a Chinese elm with bright red fall color! Here is what I found on the web: Chinese Elm trees start easily from seed but require a 24-hour soaking period in a dish of lukewarm or room temperature water. After their pre-soak, we recommend that the seeds are placed in the refrigerator, along with some bonsai soil or potting soil, in a sealed ziplock bag.

@bonsaiheirloom

I do not know much about NC…still the best time is aways from late fall to early spring…although you can do minor pruning any time of the year, anywhere.
