There were multiple questions about where to purchase the coco fiber and hanging chain. Both were from Amazon, and I'll include the links below. The coco fiber, according to the label, has been cleaned, sieved, and washed for use with plants - so hopefully this particular product does not have issues with salt residue (which could harm the orchid's root system). Coco Fiber: www.amazon.com/dp/B001RKZS54?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 Chain: www.amazon.com/dp/B08FYGJGVK?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 Both are available in different sizes/lengths. I purchased the 8 oz. package of moss and 18 inch chain. I try to respond to all comments, so if you see a reply of "See Above," it is referring to this comment! Dana

Creative idea! I’ve tried it with lava rocks only and the orchid seem to love it.

Yes, I’ve heard that lava rocks work great in this setup, too. Do you find that you have to water differently? Thanks so much for watching!

I’m so excited to see you use this medium! It’s worked wonders for me since I can’t get a hold of sphagnum moss in my country, and my high heat dries everything up quickly. It tends to hold on to moisture quite decently without soaking too much and has good ventilation! My only suggestion would be to rinse rinse rinse, as coco fiber can have high concentrations of salt (from collection near beaches) and this could potentially stress your roots. To avoid this I just get mine at the pet store, it tends to come pre-washed as it is pet safe. I love that you’re trying it!! Best of luck!

🤞🤞🤞 I really did appreciate how easy the fiber was to work with. Please see pinned comment at the top for links to buy what I used in this video. I think the coco fiber should be safe. Thanks so much for watching!

I am using the same wire basket (w small holes) for a few of my phals. They work great! One drawback is roots grow thru the holes. I have to cut around the roots to free them, Other than that, I am quite happy w them. They let lots of air flow.👍

Hi Dana, I'm new to your channel but wish I had found you sooner. I live in Cypress Texas. I understand you live Houston. I am struggling with my catasetums and like how you repotted yours but it looks like you also used coconut chips and spaghnum moss. I am going to repot mine but cannot locate your video using this media. I have finally collected the products needed. Please link me to your video on this. Thank you. Love your videos.

Thanks so much for watching! Yes, I am just slightly SW of Houston. I would say the coco husk media was not my favorite. I think it may have been too acidic or possibly salty. The growing was better the previous year when I mixed up my own media with bark, etc. This is the link to my very detailed video where I describe what I used: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4LJYmR8oatrrZIsi=Wg5ZdIa0mBmjU73p Best of luck with your plants!

Nice! I have these baskets love them, used lava rock for my B. Nodosa and Yellow Bird orchids, love your chain hangers! Where did you get them, my wire hangers are too flimsy, I need this type, Ty for sharing. I have used the coco peat liner in wooden baskets as well.

Hi They look grat . One question please , where can I buy that coco fiber? Im in florida Than you ❤
@Plantonini6 ай бұрын
I get mine at pet stores, specifically the reptile substrate section 😊 I like them because most of the time they’re pre-washed (they usually have high concentrations of salt) and they’re not too expensive and cheaper than moss (at least in my country.)

I like the look of these in the baskets will the roots grow through the holes and get damage if you have repot again
@TheOrchidHut6 ай бұрын
Likely…but that should be 3 years down the road, or so. I don’t think it will be any worse than roots growing through the slits of a plastic pot, though.
