Hi All, The wood for this project was once a picnic table top that I made about twenty years ago. The top was made of Ipe wood and was in pretty sad shape. The nice thing about Ipe wood is it seems to last forever. After a little cleaning and sanding it was perfect for the small platform deck I wanted to make for under the planter. Having a small deck under the planter will keep the legs from rotting and make the area look neat. I'm really happy with how the planter turned out and I think Laurel was right about painting it black... Thanks for watching and have a great day, Jon Here's a link to the Planter plans if you want to build it. jonpeters.com/shop/flower-planter-box-plans/

That looks like high quality wood! Nothing like american pressure treated deck boards, they rot and warp so fast, no comparison.

I love recycling wood. I presume you didn't use your thickness planer because you didn't want to have to round over all the sides of the board? You have given me the impetus to make some covers for the openings to the crawl spaces under my house. Thanks

Jon, I really enjoy the videos where there is less explanation/ talking and more of the work you are doing. Though I do enjoy your explanations, the absence of voice over keeps me engaged and trying to predict what step is next. Great work. Quick note about the finish, any reason for not applying the finish prior to installing the boards to the frame in order to get all sides coated? Thanks again!

Did you use cedar fence boards? I know you cleaned them up a lot but the wood you were cutting into slats looked really different. Looks great though. You’ve got a new subscriber!

1:18 For $1,400 you think Festool could have designed the handle in the same direction as Dewalt so you don't have to use a funky split finger third finger button hold in order to operate it? Love the saw but this is as annoying as Porter Cable's best routers not having a spindle lock.

for a free video you think someone envy of Jon's saw would just shut up and go play their yellow toys.
