Hi there. It seems to me that the part you fix to the "firewall" of the car frame is to steep. It is as you know a piece of plastic housing with rubber around. Now when the only available aftermarket part I purchased, the cable coming out of the car had to be bent way too much to be able to drive it between the steering axle and the gearbox. The other way is also too strong bent on the cable housing. My question is this. The plastic part that is attached to the frame of the car is approximately 45 degrees. Is it possible that there may be parts out there where the plastic housing is not 45 but more horizontal, like 60 or even 75 degrees? Could you help me with this? I have a 1997 1.0i CDZ engine code 37 kw type 106. Thanks for any help or hints. However if I could email you, it would be best so that I can attach photos and explain better. Thanks though!

Hi Rex, Im currently replacing my clutch cable on a Mk3 Jetta /Vento. I noticed that there is a circular pipe that is welded on to the pedal. I believe it's to hold the cable in place and stop housing from moving.... The problem is that this pipe broke off. So my question to you is can I still get clutch without that pipe ? Thanks in advance for your help and advice

I have a Citroën Berlingo and every time I re-adjust the cable the biting point is always at the bottom. I only have to lift my foot up slightly from the floor for it to engage, and i sometimes struggle to get into lower gears. Just wondering if you know why this may be. Thanks in advance.

Hej Rex.

Tak kære bror - med en hånd mekaniker, en hånd videografer :-) Great mate and thanks (oh, and the Danishness is nicely unmistakeable in your seemingly impeccable english. haha)

So how do you get the cable to come out of the engine bay from the pedal side? I've released all the connectors and the holders from the gearbox but it just WILL NOT come out - I've had my big mate ragging and pulling on it and it ain't coming out Cheers Tom

Hello George it might be your clutch release bearing that's burned. you have to take the gearbox of the engine and replace it remember to use clutch grease when installing a new. i would suggest that you buy a new clutch set. it could also be your cable but it use to be the clutch release bearing when its hard to press
@rexthecarengineer4001
@rexthecarengineer4001 5 жыл бұрын
Hei George You should try check if the cable sits probably in the mounts on its way to the gearbox (there should be no slag at all in the mounts and should it tight onto the gearbox) otherwise try check if its self adjusting or manuel adjusting then you can shape it up by your self by turning a nut on the cable that sits in the mount on the gearbox

I went to change the clutch cable on a 1.4 8v, and I got a new genuine cable from Peugeot part number 2150ef, but I'm not sure this is the right cable as it doesn't have the auto adjust cover release thing like I've seen in you video or of other clutch cables online. Did I get the wrong one? The clutch arm moves, but the car wont go into gear. Just grinds and wont actually get into gear. Without the engine running I can change gears fine, so the gearbox is fine. Dunno what it could be.

Hi Ratgreen, did you find a solution? need a different cable? As i have the same problem. fitted a new peugeot clutch cable and it didn't have the removable cable seal - the car won't bite into any gears.... Regards Andy

Adjusting the height of where the clutch engages is a problem on self adjusting clutches I have not yet solved the very irritating problem. Short of making a new bracket and moving forward where the cable connects on the bell housing. If that makes sense !

I tried installing the cable on my 206, kept the spring compressed with cable ties and installed it. Cut the cable ties but right away the spring starts to extend again to its most extended position. I just dont understand how the spring gets held into the compressed position after you install it.

Thanks Rex - I'm enlightened. I bought a quality brand new clutch cable for my Peugeot Partner and I think my mechanic bungled its installation by popping it out of its lock before installation. Right now I have challenges in changing the gears as the loading point of the clutch is so low that even when I floor the pedal, the clutch does not fully disengage. Any hope this can be corrected?

Hello VS :) I am happy that i could give you some information about clutch cable. 1. question: is the pedal still at the same level as the others? (the one who installed the cable in my car screwed the pedal way to far to the top because, if you release the cable before its installed the cable will expand and the wire inside that pull the clutch are getting shorter. Think of it this way when the plastic tube gets longer the clutch cable it self are getting smaller) if the pedal is moving to far you can lock the clutch again. You can check this by stepping down the pedal 50% (halfway to floor) and try shift gear -i had this problem when the clutch cable was to small 2. question: Did you check the cable where it is installed on your gearbox in the engine room? you should check if it is to loose, because it sounds like your cable is to long (means it should be loose at the mount on the gearbox. Because the cable didn't expand enough and therefor the wire is to long. Also your mechanic could have forgotten to remove the red plastic holder so the cable is still in the original position and cant expand because it never got released. you can check this by open your engine room and look at the side where your steering wheel is. the clutch cable goes into the cabin at that side. You want to look for a red / blue / white plastic lock as the one i remove in the end of the movie. But if you ask me it is the symptoms of a to long clutch cable. (it could also be a wrong clutch cable! i bought one at pegeout for 2 years ago and my car is a 206 2.0L but i came home with a cable for a 206 1.6L) I hope this can help you :) otherwise just write again. I would also be happy if you share it with us if you solve it. Rex

The clutch is at the same level as the other pedals. It initially feels ok but when you take the car for a drive and the drivetrain has heated up, you have to step all the way so that the clutch can release. at times gear 1 and reverse become too difficult to engage and you can hear the gears clashing if you try to force. Yes the holder was removed, in this case a white one - even before the cable was installed, - may be it was the cause of the problem. The cable is from Telco made in Italy bought from an ebay site. I selected it myself and the site indicated it was compatible with my model and engine.

Well I have somewhat the same problem. I have a 206 GTi S16 2.0L from 1999 and has as well a self adjust cable. One day it snapped so I got a replacement one based on the code that the old one had. It had no plastic "lock" thingy and I installed it as it was. The pedal is aligned to the other ones everything seems to be in check, however I have to push it all the way down to change gears most of the times. If it gets heat up, it becomes harder to change gears as you described. Keep in mind that my pedal has some play before it starts engaging the clutch, not that much but more than what I was used too. Guess I will have to adjust it somehow.

Hei Alex If it was me i would start removing the cable (that's easy, i can tell you how to do it) and you can start diagnose what might be the problem. you can check: -cable when you have it in your hands, if it runs smoothly -if the pedal are loose and not hard to press without the cable attached to it If the parts are okay and running smoothly its inside of your gearbox, it might be your pressure plate or your clutch release bearing Let us know if you find the problem, so you can share your experience with others

it's not the inner cable you make longer with resetting, it's the outer cable you have to make shorter. can't you demonstrate that with the old cable ? or cut open the mechanism ? I don't have an old cable at my disposal, just replaced the clutch and now I need to reset my cable. Thx

Yes if its's not hydraulic :) pull off the old one and install the new one. remember if its a self adjusting cable make sure its compressed and in loose position (the cable longest setting) if its with sccrew adjustment then you have to screw the nut until there is no more slag in the clutch pedal. dont tighten it to much then the clutch will slip and get toils / worn. and the car cant drive correctly as the clutch slide around and cant put the power to the wheels :)

@rexthecarengineer4001
@rexthecarengineer4001 7 жыл бұрын
