How to reset toner level readings on the Brother DCP-L3550CDW printer range / TN247 TN243

Occasionally your Brother laser printer may incorrectly give you a message to change the toner, even after installing a brand new unit. This is a very common problem, so common that this range of printers actually has a toner level reset feature built into the system itself.
To access the resetting page when needing to reset the toner ink level readings, you'll need to take the following steps:
When the "empty toner" or "change toner" message is present open up the top part of the printer, the same way you would when installing a new toner.
While the printer is open, press the 'back' arrow button AND the red 'X' button together for a few seconds, then swiftly press the 'back arrow button by itself.
A list of consumable part numbers will be present. You will want to identify which toner needs to be reset. Each option will start with the colour, then the toner or drum (DRM for drum or TNR for toner), then the capacity size. HC = High Capacity, STD = Standard Capacity. Select which one you need to reset, by clocking on it and then pressing "accept".
Close the printer lid. The message telling you to change the toner should now disappear, allowing you to print as normal.
This method should work with the following Brother printer model numbers: DCP-L3510CDW, DCP-L3517CDW, DCP-L3550CDW, HL-L3210CW, HL-L3230CDW, HL-L3270CDW, MFC-L3710CW, MFC-L3730CDN, MFC-L3750CDW, MFC-L3770CDW
** Things to note:
The standard capacity toners for these models are TN243 and the high capacity are the TN247 range.
You will also be able to reset the drum units using the same method, but by selecting the appropriate drum unit on the selection page. **

Perfect it also works for the L3551 CDW just press the Stop and clear button then the clear button with the lid open

Greetings to all. This also works with version 1.59, but don't forget to TURN OFF the printer and TURN IT BACK ON. Wait after the startup, then open it and follow the instructions! Keep me posted! Thanks!

🔴🥳Workaround to get it working with firmware 1.59 on 3550 🔴 (🇫🇷 Astuce pour que ca marche sur 3550 avec le firmware 1.59) 🔴 Instead of doing a long press on the red cross and the back button, do a "double click" on both buttons And then press the back button as instructed in the video. It requires a perfect timing but I confirm it works on my 3550 CDW with firmware 1.59 🇫🇷: Au lieu de faire un appui long sur la croix rouge et le bouton retour, il faut faire in "double click" sur les 2 boutons en meme temps. Ensuite il faut appuyer sur le bouton retour, comme dans la vidéo. J'ai du m'y reprendre à plusieurs fois avant d'avoir le bon timing, mais ca a marché pour moi 😀

Thank goodness for you! Having taken the brand new Brother toner in and out a half dozen times and my husband having had a go too, we tried contacting Brother customer services via web chat, after 20 minutes of waiting Rahul told me I wasn't quick enough to respond! So I decided KZbin was the way forward... worked first time!

If you have the L3510CDW, it’s a similar process: open the cover and then press Back and Stop/Exit buttons and the reset menu will appear

I am glad it finally works for me ! After two attempt fail, on the third trying I reset all the list of consumable part (every single ones) and left it for a moment before I closed the printer lid, then the 'no toner' message gone; I guess you need to be patient and no harm to try few times of it, it may finally pay off. Thank you so much for posting it here, it's great help and saving me to buy the new expensive cartridges.

I am not using genuine cartridges and it does not matter to reset the counter because it always says it is low on ink together with an exclamation mark on theink level indicator

Pour ma part, cela n'a pas marché, malgré plusieurs tentatives. Pour info, cela peut servir à quelqu'un, le problème venait en fait de la cartouche de toner elle-même. J'avais acheté des cartouches toner compatibles Brother et pas des originales Brother. Et sur les "compatibles", c'est un problème qui apparemment arrive de temps en temps ! Donc quand le fait de réinitialiser ne suffit pas, regardez du côté de la cartouche neuve.

Same for me, it always worked for years and last week it worked for the yellow one but not for the black one. All original brother toners. I tried and tried several times, it still doesn't work for my black toner. (my firm ware is 1.60)

Confirmed working on firmware 1.59. Note, press back key then cancel together (not cancel then back as shown in the video) before release and then press back button. I also powered down before attempting.
