They may, or may not depending on your location and their test methods. If the light stays off long enough; IDK, 100 miles or something the monitors reset. In this case, the Audi had sat 10 weeks while I was away. Mice had chewed some of the O2 sensor wires. The check engine light would come back at random when the wires would short. I eventually replaced the front two O2 sensors. $300 for parts and scraped my knuckles pretty good. It wasn't easy :) No more codes since then...

You may erase the codes anytime...but they will come back. The sensor that sent the trouble code to your ECM (Electronic Control Module) will send another signal in 3 days to a week or so. You can clear them, but in my state in the U.S. (Tennessee) you cannot pass OBDII Inspection because the ECM has a "Cleared" status and doesn't read on their computer. Where you are is where I was about a month ago. Let us know what happens at inspection time.

you can go to walmart and get one from the auto section, if not go online to any trusted website like amazon and type "innova canOBD2 diagnostic tool"

@alexisnpaco Yeah, I think your '91 might need a special code reader.... OBD wasn't mandatory in the U.S. until 1996..... I don't know if the newer readers will work on your car.... ???

dude JUST SITTING THERE FOR MONTHS ? and you have o2 sensor codes look at LIVE data and see the O2 sensors for switching above 0.8 and under 0.2 graph will help. how is the BATTERY ? i have a video on how to check the battery and alternator ... with a multimeter ... they must be fine if it has been sitting there for long.

@southlosbls11 жыл бұрын
Well yeah by erasing the codes it would clear the service engine light. But most likely it would come back on..

OK you erased the codes. Now you have to drive the car until all the different emission tests are completed. When all the tests are done as shown by your scanner and no codes appear you are ready to go for your emission test here in IL. If you try to take the emission test before the scanner has detected all the tests have been done you will fail the emission test here in IL. Basically the government has you by your gonads using computer technology. So we have to use computer technology to beat the government. Hence you will need to buy sophisticated diagnostic tools and spend hours learning about emissions systems on all types of vehicles. When your fully learned you can start charging people to turn the check engine light off legally. So far you have illegally turned the check engine light off.
@EarlGuyton4259 жыл бұрын
Greg Orland Half true and half false. It is true that being he erased the one code he will have to operate the car anywhere between 10 miles and 50 miles to allow the computer to read any further problem codes. If there are any problems to engine light will return (AND BTW, this man knows this in the video) He could not get a vehicle inspection pass today because the pcm would not have re read any possible codes since it was erased because enough operation for the pcm to detect would not have occurred , but after he has driven that car 50 miles plus HE CAN. BTW...disconnecting your battery cable is same as erasing a code with a scan tool. So according to you if a person ever changed their battery they could never get a passed inspection. So based on your belief this would also mean if a person ever need to change the control box that car could never pass inspection again. It is also NOT illegal for a person to turn off a check engine light if they know what needs to be fixed OR are not attemptjng to deceive the law by erasing codes for the purpose of passing inspeaction
@gregorland16979 жыл бұрын
In IL Autozone will not erase your codes. If you change the battery you cannot pass the emissions test until the OBD2 system has run the various tests. Erasing the codes without the fix only gets you another trip to the emission test facility. I think we agree.
@EarlGuyton4259 жыл бұрын
Greg Orland We basically do agree. I too would have erased the code on a vehicle that sat for some time as his did when it had no problem codes when it was parked earlier. People get actual enforcedlaws mixed up. For example it would be ILLEGAL if a person erased codes or caused deliberate confusion with frivolous actions in order to DECEIVE a state or federal authority. But to simply erase a code is not illegal. I erased code po103 on my ford supercrew can AFTER I repaired the MAF sensor by cleaning the connector. That is not illegal being the repair was done. Now had I been do for inspection I would need to run the engine for awhile so anything could be read and accouted for the by the pcm unit. But I would have done the same thing as the man in the video based on the situation other than After a car sits I would spray wd20 over the majority of connectors around the engine same as you would on a 58 ford pickup that sat for an extended periiod of time
