Resetting without the remote is intended for (a) getting a firestick ready to sell or give away or (b) fixing a firestick that won’t pair with its remote.

Ok here's a dilemma for you.. I have a firetv and have gone through 3 remotes because of dogs. I had to reset the tv because airplay wasn't working. Reset to factory settings and now i cant use my phone as a remote. I ordered a firetv remote but didn't realize the gen would matter. I thought i ordered the correct one but it turns out, i got a more recent gen remote. Now i cant use the app to do anything because i don't have wifi connected to the tv.. any ideas?

Great question. After resetting your Firestick, you'll need a Fire TV remote for the setup process. It doesn't have to be your original remote. I just added links to replacements in the description. These specific reset instructions are mostly for cases like: 1. You're selling or giving away your Firestick and want to wipe your personal data beforehand. 2. You bought a new remote that won't pair with the Firestick, so you need a factory reset to fix it.

If you're trying to connect to a new network, there's a hack that should work. 1. Get the name and password of your old network (the one your Firestick knows) 2. Create a hotspot from your phone or computer with that same name and password. 3. Boot up your Firestick. It should recognize that network. 4. Use the Fire TV app to change the Firestick to your new network. If it's never been signed into Wi-Fi before, then you'll need a Firestick remote for the setup process.

@@smartgeekhome it’s a strange story. My old remote was damaged and covered under warranty. Instead of sending a replacement controller, they sent another firestick. They told me that I could keep it. Lol so what I ended up doing is using another remote that I had to set it up. But I’ll be using the HEC feature on my tv remote to use the firestick.
