Not exactly the "reset" I intended, but maybe we don't have to always be "behind". Maybe we get to create our own momentum. Sending you all the good vibes if your year didn't start off the way you hoped! We got this!!!

So far the year has felt like a giant reminder that I'll "never" be able to x, y and z. But I'm choosing to look at it differently - as a reminder of all I'm already doing, congratulating myself for that, and looking to the rest of the year as if I'm building a bridge. One brick (or habit) at a time. Once I do that, the burden of expectation dissolves and I feel free to just DO the things I need to. Thanks for the video! It was perfectly timed and so deeply needed by so many of us. Hugs and love!

Thank you for doing this! I got sick last week and am so brain fogged I don't know when I will feel like me again. The shame spiral has been pretty intense. I really appreciate your offering such an open honest video on this. P.S. we didn't even do a tree this year cause it's in storage and we kept forgetting to go get it. But I've known folks who just kept tree up year round and changed decorations for each holiday so don't feel bad *hugs*

There are plenty of "new years" sprinkled across the Gregorian calendar when you look at other cultures or traditions. Beyond Jan 1st - there's the Lunar New Year which starts on Jan 22nd in 2023. April 1st/Q2, Beltane, equinox, or Nouruz are all springtime fresh starts too if you need them to be.

I did manage a new vision board this year and at the top it says: _A plan is just a rough draft. The goal is to edit as you go. To Think. To engage. Don't stick to it ... work it_ . This has given me such mental ease. Also, I'm a trad pubbed author who just got rights back to 9 (!!!) novels so P&T is so timely. Our mutual friend Rachael Herron speaks highly of it, and you, so I can't wait to learn the indie biz from you.

Such a mentally healthy and strong approach! Why allow yourself to feel overwhelmed because your kids got sick? That deprived you of the same comfortable run-up to the New Year reset that everyone gets on 1 January, but you couldn't control that, and I love that you are telling yourself you're exactly where you're meant to be. Because you are! And you deserve a pat on the back for keeping all those balls in the air at the same time. Thank you for this excellent reminder.

Holy moly. You just explained EXACTLY why I have been in the rut since Christmas. I went away this year, and I was not at home, getting ready for the new year. I do have a lot of projects in the air, and I know I need to work on getting things done. But I have been dragging my feet ever since we got back from a lovely holiday at my Mother in Law's. Yes, it was very relaxing until we were getting ready to leave. Then it was kind of rush to get ready to go home, but not me, at my pace, and it really threw me off my game. I am just now getting back into the swing of things. No blame, just a realization. That and missing my family so much. I have only seen one part of my family since 2019, and I am REALLY needing to get to see them. It is going to be so nice to get together in August. But I can't just plan for the trip only. I need to start taking action, and this is what I am doing. Knowing why I have been so far off my game helps put a different perspective on it. I need to reset myself before I can fully be present in August with my family. This is just what I needed today. Thank you!

This is exactly what I needed. My beginning of the year was full of fear and uncertainty. I started chemo Jan 3 (I have Lupus) and have spent the past 5 weeks in and out of the hospital, doctor's office, blood lab, etc. It didn't feel like a fresh start; January felt overwhelming and uncertain. I'm 5 weeks in now and seeing the light at the end of my tunnel. No writing got done. No Q1 planning. No SM posts were completed. All I did was sit and let medical poison do its job. I listened to true crime podcasts and crocheted. I rested when I needed to. I was quiet and soft and gentle with myself. I'm so glad you posted this because that negative voice in my head was trying to tell me that I had already failed. The truth is, it is never too late to start. I'm not behind. I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be. ❤️ Thank you, Sarah. This video is giving me life.

Thank you so much Sarra! I needed to hear this today. My last week of Q4 and first 2 weeks of Q1 were NOT what they were supposed to be. Urgh. But like you said, we get to choose. I'm going to give myself grace and plan for a time to do that reset when I can. Oh, yeah on the "I don't have to do absolutely everything when I put an arbitrary date on it." Jeeez. Wrote down "Remember to allow yourself to receive joy no matter how few things you've checked off."

I posted a day or two ago about some planning I've been putting off. It's a planner that I want to start where i corral all the tutorials and courses and master classes and ebooks that I buy and don't finish. I want to use this traditional planner the way a student uses a planner, setting up days for which "courses" I'm working on right now. The goal is that having this written down somewhere will help prevent me from starting something new and shiny before I've finished the last thing. And I'm gonna eat this book up TODAY. No more excuses. :) I'm gonna take it out with me, sit down, do the brainstorming I need to make this happen, and start setting plans for the year.

I also fell behind this new years. I have decided to "restart" in February. I work at Sam's club and they start their year in February and they also break up the year into quarters. @@HeartBreathings I saw it for myself as a multi-layered set of questions. 1. Is this something I am putting on myself (like you said in the video)? Then can I change the timing or the content of the stress? 2. Is this a true "deadline/emergency/etc" coming either from me or from the outside? Family, illness, etc - Move the priority up, and see if I can get help with it. 3. Is this something being put on me, and can I delegate it to someone else, or even say "no". Day job boss, volunteer jobs, etc - sometimes no is the best answer. 4. Is this even a thing? Is it my anxiety/worry/perfectionism making up problems that don't even exist? 5. Is this something that I could actually accomplish in 5-10 minutes? Set a timer and find out! 6. Am I hungry, thirsty, tired, hurting? Take care of the need, and that stress may go away, or at least be dealable with. I don't have the Hustle habit, nor do I usually punish myself (usually)...but these other questions are my "interview ideas", now. Other people may have other questions that they need to ask the stress, instead.

One thing I've started this yer due to not feeling that "new year" energy the past few years is the Seasonal New Year. So when Spring begins(March 20th for me) is my new year and these few months I'm planning all my goals and objectives for the upcoming date. It's helped quite a lot! Especially since the winter months are supposed to be your rest and reset months.

Normally my Christmas decor is away on Boxing Day. This year it’s likely to be up till feb. that’s ok. It’s a super busy year away from the house. So home life is welcome to be slow. It’s time needed to be spent with family that is normally put off because I’m busy. This is the year to slow track. I have already seen that path and that’s ok. Because life will get busy, and stressful this year. So the slow home life is sooo needed. Don’t be hard on you. Be graceful for you.

This video resonated with me so much. I'm from Ukraine and so there is a war going on in my country, I relocated to Thailand for winter to keep working fulltime without electricity blackouts. But I've moved from winter climate to summer and in general this whole thing really messed up my perception of time, I feel like I'm stuck in one moment but the world around me moves on. It didn't even feel like Christmas or New year, I didn't celebrate, didn't make a year wrap up or plan for the next one. And now I really want to catch up but it feels too late. My kanban board is back at home and I miss it dearly and I'm just drifting here. But your video gave me some hope to reset and keep trying to reach my goals, thank you!

Instead of crossing things off my to do list, I like to highlight them to show that they are done. I can even put down the date and time that I completed them, if I like, so that I know what's been done and when. Then, whatever is NOT highlighted, sticks out like a sore thumb to remind me to get it done. Also, if I do this in a particular program, such a Notion, I can move around what has not been completed from one place to another so that I know all past pages are done, and I'm only working on the ones coming up. I used this method when I was in college. by just highlighting whatever was on my syllabus (not when I completed it, but once I handed it in). I also added those assignments to my school calendar so that I knew what was coming up in each class. I was always ahead on my assignments because I did them in the order in which they were due.

My word for 2023 is "progress,." Every small step forward is progress and something to be celebrated. If that one step is simply getting out of bed, I'll take it and be thankful! My year began with covid so I definitely understand getting a later reset than preferred. That's OK! Every morning is a good time for a new reset, or for that matter, every Thursday at 11:06 p.m. if that's what works for someone. Why not? I wish you a very happy birthday and a great time at Disney next week. January is a wonderful month! My grandson's birthday was Jan. 7 and mine is Jan. 25.

Definitely resonates with me, I feel like I put myself back to square one with setting up goals and systems for this year.... I'm trying to institute too many habits at once. Looking forward to P&T and HB90! 💖

Hi, Sarra, This video has helped me so much! I had been thinking that this is the second time I've 'messed up' my HB90 schedule and I'm behind - again. I've been quietly mentally punishing myself up for not getting started when I was supposed to. This video was made just for me. 😄 'A plan is just an intention of how we hope it's going to go'. Thank you for the advice and for sharing your personal journeys. I feel a lot clearer - and have a much lighter mindset about it all. I've set my intentions and have created a better personal mental space in which to carry them out. 💖

This happened to me both last year and this year. Last year, myself and my daughter got covid right before Christmas. I was down until about 1 week into the new year. This year, we traveled to visit family and we came back about a week into the new year. I had a great, productive year last year. One thing that helped me was that I read the 12 week year right before I was ill. It helped me to see that the dates and deadlines that we set are completely arbitrary. I know that when I start my systems and routines, I will be well on my way to a great, productive year.

I love the reframing statements. I’m not behind, I just didn’t get everything completed that I wanted to.

This is appropriately timed. I thought I would get my second book in my series completely plotted by the end of Q4 and be drafting it in Q1, but my health didn’t allow me to get much done with plotting that book in December. Plus, I also realized a couple big changes that need to be made to book one, plus some other details that don’t work in book one, so I’m researching and plotting by hand every plot detail of book one so I can rewrite it and then find beta readers for it. Once book one’s third draft is done, I will move back to plotting book two and then draft that book. Shortly after nanowrimo ended last year I learned a great way for me to plot novels so I can hopefully avoid having multiple rewrites, but all in all I’m happy for the lessons I’ve learned since I started drafting book one of my series until now. I was new to novel writing when I first started this book series and I have learned so much about writing and learned multiple life lessons. Thanks for sharing this video to remind me to not stress out too much about things not happening the way I would’ve preferred initially for them to. Sometimes when we want something to go a certain way and it doesn’t, the way it went was a lot better than what we thought we wanted.

Thank you so much for this. I fell Christmas morning and fractured my knee. I haven’t been able to catch up since. This is my very first HB 90 planning quarter as well so I am trying to give myself grace while I turn this ship!!

As always, you are a wonderful blend of inspiration and comfort. ❤ Thank you. You ARE right on time. I’m proud of you for working on believing this, and grateful to you for reminding me to believe it, too. Lastly- that color looks lovely on you. :) That Christmas tree? Just a hit of nature indoors. ;) 🌲 ❤

This totally resonates with me! We got a puppy in December and that has flipped my whole world upside down. And honesty I’m grieving my old life. Super cute pup. But I need to get my groove back!

This happened to me last April. My pup is coming up on a year, and if you told me a mere dog would have upended so much (esp. mentally) I would have laughed. So I feel you!

This really resonated with me as someone who started January behind right off the bat. It’s so easy to get down on ourselves for not being prepped and ready for a fresh start on January 1st. But what really got my attention was when you said “is this serving me?” And the answer is clearly no. So I have shifted my “new year” to February 1st and that’s okay. Thank you for a much needed and timely video ❤

When we decided to move to SC from NC, we decided to get rid of a lot of stuff that we'd been hanging onto forever. Since we've been in SDC, we've continued to get rid of lots of stuff. I find this to be an allegory? of my life right now. that the more we (my husband and I) get rid of, the more we can hone in on the things we need to do and the things we need to let go of. Hope that makes sense.

Thank you for this positive and motivating video! My reset date is Feb 4th and I’m excited for it! Right now it’s daily lists in my Hibonichi Days-Free, and this is also fun and workable, although not quite what I need to happen to keep to my goals on track.

I wasn’t able to reset but I wrote with colored markers a few words for each day on our wall calendar. I’m going to photograph, print out and paste into my planner because it’s a creative way to honor those days (even if one day just says, sleepy 😂).
