What if Dragonfire were to hypothetically read “Banish chosen character, draw a card”. If you used it on an exerted Diablo would he still be able to trigger? Trying to get a sense of if damage timings functions the same as cards that just directly banish.

That's a good question! I checked the rules document again and couldn't find anything relating to this, however I believe that Diablo would not draw a card in that instance since if there was a period between both statements (so it read "banish chosen opposing character. Draw a card) the steps would be: - Banish a character - Diablo is chosen - Diablo is Banished - Player draws a card (Diablo isn't in play anymore so his ability would not activate) If the ability read "banish chosen character and draw a card" with no period between both actions then yeah, I believe Diablo would draw a card since both things are happening simultaneously. There's a chance that they update this timing in the future if a card like that ever existed but based on what we have now I believe that's how this would shake out.
