ThIs is a script that always Works for me The goal is for myself to take charge of the situation 1. Someone says something very rude to me 2. I describe what just happened ...seconds ago I walked in here and asked you...fill in blanks ...what I see is that you are being rude to me ...is there a reason why you are being rude This throws them off and whatever they say you repeat is that the reason 4. They may get even more rude 5. I then say, you are hopeless, keep that anger to yourself, it belongs to you

Many thanks, dearest Leila! Quite enlightening! I would also like to add to the list you kindly presented in this lesson another way how to react beautifully to someone's hypocritical comment, namely "The raven chides blackness". This one was used by Shakespeare in his undeservedly neglected "Troilus and Cressida".

I think the best comment to rudeness I've ever heard was in Torquay. A shopowner refused to sell alcohol to some girls who didn't have or want to show any ID. The girls became very irritating and discourteous and as they left the shop shouting, she just said "aww, bless them".
@junehitchens7998
@junehitchens7998 10 ай бұрын
That hints at a sometimes common expression in the south of the USA. To someone who is saying something which is frankly wrong, overly critical or lacking basic understanding, a response may be "Bless your heart".

Working customer service for a very long time, mostly over the phone but now retail, I've found my best tactic is to not engage in the anger. I start with a smile(works on a phone just the same- keep smiling and they can hear it in your voice!); if they come back at you with more ire, crank up the sympathy, smile and niceness! Either; they're a healthy human and realize you ARE trying to help them and back down; OR they've already determined they want a whipping post to excise their grievances... to which your "positive counter' spins them off into a ridiculous state that is both entertaining and satisfying, making it ever easier to be kind as they lose it(and can't hold any fault on you!!!)

Well Leila, the more a person tries to make me don't understand what he or she says, the more I'm used to be polite and I pretend to had understood well even if, barely, it isn't like that because from the tone of voice and gesture I can often understand the general meaning. Fortunately, I met and faced with intelligent and polite foreign people. With the ones in my country, it can often be like that, instead!

How to respond rude people: 1. sorry, what did you say? 2. saying nothing at all. 3. That's not a productive comment, is it? 4. People (who live in) in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. 5. (the) pot calling the kettle black! [when somebody is hypocrite] 6. Well, as they say : "It takes one to know one." [you are suggesting that person is exactly the same ] 7. If only closed minds came with closed mouths. 8. I'd be inclined to keep my comments to myself if I were you. [more sophisticated] 9. If ignorance is bliss, you must be the happiest person on the planet.

Hello Leila, I was surfing KZbin and “stumbled “ onto your site.. I love the way the both of you speak the Queens English.. Okay I’m an American, 63 years old.. Back in 1979 I was in the US Navy stationed on board a destroyer. While in Hong Kong I was at the Royal Navy China Fleet Club . While I was there at the club a group of us were talking.. A few were from the Australian RN and a few from the British Army.. While talking I said “at least we all speak English here.. This comment did NOT sit well, at all, with a female member of the British Army.. Its been 42 years and I can remember it like it was yesterday.. Okay BA woman, no kidding, recoils as if I were holding a turd under her nose. She then, curtly, said “no! You do NOT speak English! You speak American and you BUTCHER the language!” No, really! This woman took offense to my having said I speak English.. She “was not a happy camper.” LOL!
