This is good, and it's something I've thought about for some time - to be consistent, those who support homosexuality and condemn those who oppose it should also be happy with incest, otherwise their own insults can be thrown right back in their faces, as Mike has done here. However, I want to question the understanding that a phobia must automatically equal hatred. To my understanding, a phobia is an extreme fear or discomfort about something, whether it be spiders or heights, etc. One could be "homophobic" in that they are personally uncomfortable with it (whether they have religious views or not), but, while that could lead to hatred, it's not necessarily so. I am a Christian and disagree with it on those grounds, and I am also personally uncomfortable with it, which I would think makes me a homophobe. However, in no way do I hate homosexuals or despise them. From a personal point of view, it's something about which I am uncomfortable, and surely, like anyone else, I have a right to feel that way, as long as I don't use it to go out and hurt others.

@littleboots98004 жыл бұрын
@Christian Morgan Actually they have more than "their silly little book" to inform their opinion. The fact that homosexuality seems to provide a poor basis for human flourishing is evidenced in the far lower life span of gays, the greater incidences of all manner of health problems from STI's to cancers, the greater use of tobacco, alcohol and drugs, higher incidence of mental health issues, (and if this was due to stigma we should be seeing a decrease but we don't,) as well as poorer outcomes for children of such unions. Gay relationships are far less likely (by several orders of magnitude,) to be lifelong, committed and monogamous. This lack of stability isn't good for society, any children brought into such unions or the individuals involved. So what Christians read in their bible seems to be borne out by what they see in real life.
@mrinternet.4 жыл бұрын
@@littleboots9800 While gay men tend to be more prone to such diseases, gay women tend to be less prone to them than even straight people. But you wouldn't say being straight is more immoral than being lesbian, would you? As for the substance abuse, that tends to stem from the mental health issue you brought up, which you say it should decrease if it was due to stigma, why should it? The stigma and ill treatment of gays hasn't gone away. Just because people in media are more openly supportive doesn't mean gay ppl aren't being kicked out the house, doesn't mean they aren't being told something that is in their essence is wrong, Christians tell them such things and you can't imagine what it must be like to be told to not love who you love. Imagine ppl said the wife you have is bad for you, and any other women you fall for. It would be pretty sick. Also just because people use things that are bad for their health does not mean it is immoral, as Americas obsession with fast food is killing them in numbers, doesn't make it immoral, just something that should be worked on.

Nonsense, God has said nothing. It is people who interpret and propogate his word and people who also loose the historical context and persecute. Comparing to incest is not valid because incest is not allowed because it causes genes to reduce their diversity. Same sex relationships benefit society. If you reframe your opinion that all women and men are not baby makers you can see that a same sex couple who would never want to produce opposite sex offspring might be happier and more beneficial to society in another capacity, such as foster parent, adoption, etc... ...also the church has never strongly persecuted gay priests so why not? ...maybe because God tells us to love all...... ...depending on your motivation, yes you are a homophobe if you can't see the other person as someone deserving all that you have. The fact that attack in response is an indication that you do indeed have a fear. I suspect god would value inclusion rather than exclusion...that's what Jesus did...included and despised those who did not respect minorities.

Not often this guy is shallow, but this might be an exception, remembering that this video is 5 years old. My boss (and I work for the UK Civil Service so he is a very big boss indeed) would consider any criticism of a gay lifestyle as simply morally wrong, full stop. Certainly, while he might accept the accuracy of the biblical interpretation presented here and elsewhere, he would consider it fundamentally harmful as a whole, certainly to gay people and ultimately to society as a whole. Therefore, the play on words offered here would simply look at best vacuous and at worst idiotic. He would probably be too polite to call Mike a homophobe to his face, but he would certainly think it. Faced with this, the only thing to do is to suck it up, agree to disagree and walk off. You won't win him to God, but at least you will retain your dignity.

Well, you could go on to ask your boss, "On what moral grounds do you make such judgements? If they are subjective (your opinion), why does it matter?"
@evanhuizenga86262 жыл бұрын
I don't think it is vacuous at all. Responding with "Do you think incest is wrong? Doesn't that mean you are actively harming innocent people who just want to love each other?" is a perfect rebuttal, against which there is no honest defense.

Ah, I guess you’re not familiar with UK diversity law which protects both gay relationships and demands their promotion, while still banning incest ( in theory at least). My boss is obliged to uphold the Law so would justify his response on that basis. It’s certainly unthinking but hard to break down the emotional disgust many feel about seeming to persecute outsiders.
@evanhuizenga86262 жыл бұрын
@@Yawnyaman I am familiar with it, actually, but this issue has nothing to do with legality lol. Even if your boss is "legally required" to approve of homosexuality and disapprove of incest, that is morally meaningless and entirely external. "Legally obligated" opinions are the furthest from genuine that you can get.

Even if the Bible didn't list the practice of homosexuality as a sin, it still doesn't change the message of the gospel. The gospel is for everyone because God declared us all equally as sinners through the sin of one man (Adam). Through the righteousness of another man (Jesus) who took our punishment upon Himself God declares all that believe as righteous. We can become righteous when we realise we are sinners deserving of hell and the only redemption is by putting our trust in what Jesus did for us so as God can declare us as.righteous and forget our sin. I think a lot of people grossly misuse the gospel when they are concerned with a list of sins rather than the message of the gospel itself.

If the person is having lustful thoughts towards the same sex then yes it is. And then even if they fall in love with someone of the same sex it doesn't make it okay. You could argue incestual relationships are loving, does that make them okay? Just because someone loves someone of the same sex does not make marrying them and having sex with them okay. We love the sinner not the sin.

@@g7108 Love does not equal lust or romance. So yes it is fine to love anyone, but as soon as you have sex with someone outside the bounds of man and woman marriage you are definitely living in sin. It is not just 'I'm different" it is an abomination to have sex with your same sex. That's like having sex with yourself only worse you are committing adultery with someone of your same sex. Man and woman go together like a lock and key, man and a man is an abomination. Woman and woman is an abomination.

Well then, you've just made a really good argument for why somebody should reject Christianity and its god. Is this secretly an atheism channel? If so, well done. The reasoning reminds me of how slave owners justified themselves. God sanctioned it, so to question it is to question God!

@lancecjohnson9 жыл бұрын
Yes, I did, but I am being a bit sarcastic with my initial statement. I don't really think that you're doing an atheist/parody site. Unlike a lot of liberal Christians, I think that you genuinely do have the better argument that God is against homosexuality. However, that's one more good reason to completely reject the Christian god, not a reason to reject homosexuality. Surely you know that your religion is hemorrhaging members - much of them from the younger generations. One of the reasons cited is the attitude of the church toward gay people. What you might not realize is that the better of a case that you make for this, the more apostates you may be (ironically) creating.
@lancecjohnson9 жыл бұрын
As for the bit about slave owners, their argument is exactly the same as yours. You say that those who support gay marriage and claim it to be Biblical are creating a God that one doesn't find in The Bible (thus creating their own god). This is the exact same argument that slave holders could level at abolitionists (and they did). The God of the Bible, whether Old or New Testament, is clearly in favor of slavery, and to suggest otherwise is entirely contrary to The Bible.

I'm aware of apologetic arguments that pretend like The Bible doesn't say what it clearly says. (Let me guess - you bring up indentured servitude?) You're doing the same thing that liberal Christians do when they say that The Bible doesn't condemn homosexuality. For Pete's sakes, dude, there are instructions that say you can beat your slave so long as you don't beat him to death. There is no "context" that makes that anything less than horrific and barbaric.

@MaloTheYoshi God created sexuality and marriage as a reflection of Christ's love for the church and a way to display that truth, anything else is wrong. But this doesn't matter anyway, you're stating the kind of overstated arguments that hold no water when examined logically. If anything you said wasn't based on pride, falsehood, and thoughts that are endlessly common and debunked for the groundless and purposeful misinterpretations that they are, I would be an atheist. I don't your pide will let you see past this fact though (from logically examining your other comments). @MaloTheYoshi Homosexuality causes a person to be taken to court for not baking a same-sex joined cake. Homosexuality causes school districts to want to teach about LBTQ when children are in school K through 3.

@MaloTheYoshi MaloTheYoshi, my reply is based on your assertion: >Homosexuality doesn't affect you in any way, as you're not gay. >And also, homosexuality is not causing the guy to go to court, >it's the guy's homophobic actions that got him to court. No, it is a law that says you can't discriminate against gays. >But if you won't make them a pizza because you're a KKK member, >of course, you're going to be called out for it. The cake business isn't KKK or affiliated, just doesn't want to do it based on religious principles. And based on Free Speech. Supreme Court disagreed with you on two separate cases, in two states. The guilty verdicts were overturned. >"Homosexuality causes school districts to want to teach about >LBTQ when children are in school K through 3." >...And that's wrong...why? We also teach children not to harm > others or steal...so...what now? The classes aren't about not hurting, but rather the sexual details. The children would miss out on reading, writing, math. The classes are not age appropriate for the students. >You're argument hinges on the assumption that homosexuality is >wrong. God says it is wrong; that is enough for me. If that is not enough for you, then there are also the studies on the bad effects on longevity of the union, sexual diseases that are more common and worse on the person's physical health, elevated drug use and poor mental health. You think have a strong idea of my arguments having never met me and based on two sentences I wrote. >Homosexuality doesn't affect you in any way, as you're not gay. Homosexuality affected me, because YOU, a person who promotes it, thinks you have the power to READ MINDS. And so YOU assert all manner of nonsense and assign these assertions to me. Perhaps you don't know how to use KZbin, or KZbin had a hiccup. But you don't give a benefit of the doubt when you assert: "For those who can't see whom I'm responding to, it's because they deleted their comment right as I was typing a response."
