The pump has a filter on the bottom that gets clogged and chokes off the gas. I have a 2008 Kia Rio and have replaced the fuel pump twice in 4 months and now 2 months later I'm having the same problem with the engine shutting off. The last two times the car died is after driving on a bumpy road. The bumpy road could have stirred up trash in the tank and clogged the filter. By blowing air back through the system it could have helped clean the filter. I like the idea of blowing air through the system so I'll give it a try before replacing the fuel pump for the third time. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks

did you every tru this or did you replace the pump? I also have a 08 kia rio but everytime i fuel up my rpms bounce from 1000rpms to 500 rpms not enough to kill it but it does this as it idles!?

I didn't try blowing it out, I just replaced the fuel pump. The filter was nasty. Your filter is probably half clogged and starving for fuel. But I would go ahead and change the fuel pump and filter.

2006 kia spectra...quit. engine turns over but no code and wont crank. thinking its the fuel pump. $145

Dude! That may have allowed fuel to get to your engine temporarily, but you're likely only prolonging ultimate fuel pump failure due to a clogged fuel filter. Furthermore, adding air pressure to the fuel system without a gauge to tell you how much pressure your putting into the system will destroy other components within the fuel system. What you need to do is a root cause analysis to find and fix the real problem, and stop giving horrible advice to people on KZbin that will damage their fuel system components if they're naive or ignorant enough to try it.
