Great video. Love the content. The rocker arm should be spaced up such that at the valve mid-lift position, the centerline of the rocker shaft to the centerline of the rocker arm roller is horizontal. Then you should notice that the roller is actually the farthest out when at the mid-lift position, and behind that position when at full open and full closed (drawing this arc on a piece of paper will show why). This shaft position also gives the least amount of roller sweep over the valve tip. Also, the pushrod adjuster should be screwed in/out such that a line drawn from the centerline of the rocker shaft to the center of the adjuster ball is perpendicular to the pushrod at the valve mid-lift position. This allows the rocker arm ratio to stay constant over the full range of valve lift (and follows the camshaft profile exactly) rather than having the rocker ratio changing as you open/close the valve. Unfortunately this may require custom length pushrods to achieve this.

did they paint the inside of the head, where the water goes to cool it? thought you where suppose to keep paint out of the internal bits incase the heat causes it to flake off...

Gracias por ver el canal. El mejor aceite para la caja de cambios manual classic mini es 20w50 con alto contenido de zinc. Utilizo Valvoline VR1 en mis motores.

great videos, I enjoy and learn a lots,!!!! I own a MINI 95 originally made for and sold in Japan market, back to North America now is in Canada with me. is the fouth Mini I had before :1971 ,1976, 1977 and my question is: do you know mechanically if the models sold in Japan has any upgrade in the engine? as valves ,rocker rollers,head cilinder, etc etc. cosmeticallly the car is a little better as the regular models : seats, paint, interior ,but what really important for me is the engine. I hope you help me with your knowledge about MINI;s . thanks from Toronto ,Martin

Thanks for the kind words! Largely the engine and internals were mostly the same between Japanese market minis and others around the world. That said many Japanese market minis came with creature comforts like Air Conditioning and nicer interiors.

Hello, could you help me with a question? I have an austin mini, with a 1380 engine, it is coco or kit to reach this displacement, so I bought it, it has 1 only 1 1/4 Su carburettor, the question is will it improve performance if I put a SU 1 3/4 carburettor .?

If I may ask who sells a 11 bolt valve cover for that head?
@classicminidiy
@classicminidiy 4 жыл бұрын
Just about any valve cover can be easily modified to fit an 11stud setup. They just require a small notching/clearancing for the studs. There are valve cover gaskets sold pre notched as well.

20w50 will be perfect. Ideally with a high-zinc percentage or additive. This will help preserve the engine internals considerably.

@@classicminidiy Castrol now has a Classic high zinc 20-50. I typically used Rotella T4 15w40 and add 1/2 a bottle of zinc additive from Lucas.

Don't you think you should have tried, at least the tldr version of why shimming the rocker height is important, rather than just say it is and then moving on... Or saved it for when you can explain with a cam in and the valve at half lift etc.

Unfortunately I can’t make a video on everything. Filming every job on the car would be a full time job which is not what Classic Mini DIY is for me. Though I wish it could be. I either mention I did it and people wish I did a video or I don’t mention it and people tell me I’m wrong for not doing it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
