Many years ago i repaired a block face on a v8 range rover with a jb weld type of stuff. It was only used for off roading but it went on for 1000s of miles

What a shame about the block...can't wait to see how you get on when it's all put back together. Fingers crossed.

Always use a hard board sanding pad when doing the head face, leaves shadows on the low spots and stops you rounding all the edge areas. That dent in the block is an easy fix with some epoxy metal.

For those people who would say "why don't you"? I am old enough to remember having to "decoke" heads every 30/40 000 miles and do what you are doing now.

Well with direct injection and exhaust gas recirculation, we're back to it, for the inlet ports and back of valves.

Looks like a good job to me, if you have a glass table or large piece of glass that’s a good surface to put your wet and dry on and keep it flat. I have no doubt the composite head gasket will seal nicely on there with a heat cycle and re torque

Helpful video - building a 1293 currently Thoughts on applying oil to valve when lapping valves? Heard people mention you should never lap dry. Didn’t see you applying any.

Good idea, especially if using new valves/guides although use a thin oil. My guides are worn so doubt it makes much difference to be honest

A guy local to me says he somehow uses copper wire to seal his head gasket. Putting it between cylinders 1 + 2 where his kept blowing. Said he has now done 20k with no problems on his little mini van he uses every day. Interesting!

I know you want to believe that its not a crack but i think you know the truth. Some dye will show that run 1/4 way down the cylinder. A close shot would have been nice. Bad luck
@classicminiworkshop3 жыл бұрын
I’m keeping my fingers crossed. It’s weird the way it’s indented. I didn’t have any crack dye and Sod’s law, I’ve just put it back together and Mark phoned me to say he had some!.
