Here in Nova Scotia,we used to have spring and fall clean-up. People would put out old and broken lawnmowers ,snowblowers, chainsaws, etc. I would collect and repair what I could and give them to people who could not afford to buy new ones. I’m in poor health now, bedridden and unable to do that anymore. I still have a pressure washer that I scavenged over 20 years ago. I love what you do. Thank you for your channel and keep up the good work.

So I have enjoyed your videos for several months now. Funny story happened recently. A friend of mine had a mower stop working and he was frustrated. He told me that he has 3 lawn mowers than dont work. I asked if he wanted to part with them. He said he really wanted his main one working but that I could have the other two. So I fixed his main one and got two others as payment. Your videos made it possible for me to know how. So thank you can helping me accidentally start repairing mowers for friends.

Joe Coffman at Monroe High in Washington State was the best guy for teaching these things. Literally a shop teacher with three fingers on his right hand. He taught small gas engine repair and farm power mechanics. I was leaps and bounds ahead of my contemporaries when I went to Tech. school to become a mechanic. You can't just be a parts replacer if you are working on antique tractors. Parts are not available. Sometimes had to fabricate our own.

that back drag is an actual design feature. companies dont want their devices running forever, so make the device fail over time. this is called "planned obsolescence". this is why companies/corporations dont want you to learn how to REPAIR your own devices/machines. but you did a great job !!! thanks !!!

You’re an inspiration to the rest of us wannabe DIYER’S. I have an older Craftsman which is a rear wheel drive 21” mower and the best mower I’ve ever owned. I’m planning on retrieving it from our cottage where it was used it for a couple of years. I’ll have to drain and clean the tank and clean the carburetor back home. I’m hoping to use it in place of the newer push mower. Thank you for your great videos and cheerful dialogue which gives me a lot of encouragement! I tipped the mower and found the blade was bent so bought a new one and will install it. Hope it starts after hitting that 2” stump and runs okay.

In 1971, I was working for JC Penny's and I sold a ton on these lawn mowers. Penn-craft was Penny's model of this same lawn mower. When you would point this out the two side by side, they were the same except for the price and color. Toro was over a $100.00 dollar difference and some times more. I would point this out to the customer and they would buy the JC Penny's Penn-craft model. Guess what, I did not make a dime on sales, but made my Boss look good. I then went inside the store and started selling Hardware, my boss had both depts. I liked that better in the Air and stayed cleaner. Great Job and as Always and I Learned something today.

Another minor victory for this amateur mechanic. I bought this mower at the Kessler BX in 1983. It is Jacobsen predecessor to this style mower. Used it to mow yards in Mississippi, Maryland, Kansas, and San Antonio. Several years ago it stopped working and would stall after starting. After a while I took it to a mower repair shop. They finally gave up claiming they could not find the carburetor diaphragm needed. Brought it home and took it apart and found Briggs and Stratton engine code on block. Googled a site with parts listing for the many hundreds of engines B&S made. Found and ordered the correct diaphragm. The carburetor sits on the diaphragm on top opening in gas tank. Uses compression pressures to move diaphragm and push gas from gas tank into carburetor. Reassembled, adjusted carburetor and it works! On KZbin I follow Mustie1 channel who repairs all types of oddball small engines. Learned enough to feel confident enough to dive into this repair.

Back in the early 80's, I did small enging repairs as a side line and there were a few rich neighborhoods near me so every week on trash day i would take a ride out there, and i would see push mowers, riding mowers and even some chainsaws thrown out to trash, most only needed miner repairs such as points and condenser, or a spark plug, i picked Snappers, John Deere, Wheel Horse, homelite and Stiel saws, after i gave them TLC i then sold them. Easy money, now it seems most items today are throw away!

Now that i"m better i spend my spare time looking for free lawn equipment on the side of the road. These videos inspired me to go out and fix these free mowers, weedeaters and leaf blowers. Most common problem is bad gas, fouled plug or just a dirty carburetor. Now i make a few bucks selling these newly refurbished yard equipment to make extra money. Fixed a newer version of that Toro. Got $150. Needed a carb rebuild kit with the needle seat being shot and a couple other gaskets. Kit was $14.50. A new whole carburetor was $8.50. No brainer. Sharpen and balance the blade. Clean and degrease the entire thing. Slap in a new air filter (dude tilted it the wrong way and it was soaked in oil). Ran like a champ. But yea, having other donor machines around is a nice luxury.

I know that nobody will believe it but when you had it finished and said guess how many pulls I said out loud "one". That's how confident I am of your work --- which apparently is more confident than you gave yourself credit for.

Mustie! I have a relatively new chainsaw that suddenly froze up. Chainsaw was worth maybe $ 450 and $500. I did what you did... put WD 40 and PB Blaster into the cylinder via the spark plug entry and connected a drill motor (after rocking it back and for,th. I managed to free it up and have every expectation to make it work. Thanks... My local Husqvarna dealer said it was beyond economic repair. Works.! Thanks.
