Buddy, you just saved months of editing. A project I've been working on for about 16 months went bad I think bc of Fusion overload. I have some backups but restoring this auto backup only lost me part of a day. The process was definitely not intuitive so thank you for explaining it with your normal clarity. You're my go-to when I run into issues like this so thank you for doing what you do.

Thanks! You saved me hours of a potential re-edit!! Have a cup of coffee on me. I had this "great idea" of syncing my Resolve Database between my work and home computers so I always have the most recent project files in either location. (I can't use Blackmagic Cloud due to Firewall restrictions). At some point my sync overwrote the Database in the wrong direction...operator error I'm sure. This video helped me find the backup on one of my computers and get me right back on track! I appreciate all your insights into Fairlight and sharing your knowledge with the community. Thanks for being at Resolvecon '23!

Thank you so much for your support! I appreciate it very much. Glad you were able to pull some of the backups. Yeah without BM Cloud, the best thing to do is keep the databases on the internal drive, then just export the project file to bring back and forth. Then you can keep your media on an external drive and just bring that will you too.

You saved my life, thank you. I realized when following your instructions that I had an old user.db and that made everything recovered. Sometimes it just helps to have someone go through the step by step to see things you didn't see on the wrong path. Cheers.

You are a life saver, Jason! This was exactly what I needed. My old hard drive died, and I had to start fresh on a new one. So all the project info got "lost". This trick allowed me to restore ALL my projects by just copying ALL the backup folders (which, luckily, were on an external drive!) to the project folder and viola! Everything restored with just a few clicks. I'm so grateful!

Hi Jason, I have a project that crashed after changing the fonts on a 3d text, when I try to re open that project nothing shows up, I assume it keeps crashing when I open that project in ponticular. The problem is I don't have any back ups of previous version to go back. Do you know if there's anything I can do? 🙁 Or is the project lost for good?
@JasonYadlovski2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Sorry to hear Resolve crashed and you lost some work, that stinks. Do you have Resolve set up to save the backups at all? For example, if you right click on the project in the Project manager and go to Project Backups, is there anything there? If there is nothing there and nothing like I show in this video, I don't think there is anything you can do. Sounds like it might be gone. Any chance you have your computer continuously backing up somewhere? Maybe you could pull it from there....🤔

You legit saved me from jumping off the balcony (figuratively of course). My goodness, thought I lost months of editing... I think a huge tip for anyone out there that loses project.db files in the upgrade/downgrade mess like I just did (first, backup everything of course)....is that there is a chance that the folder is hidden somewhere other than the spot it's supposed to be. I was ready to buy a data recovery software....and by using the free trial to scan my system it was able to find where the files were when my Mac search wasn't able to. They were in a multi numbered folder RIGHT BESIDE my resolve projects folder. I'm new to Resolve, so maybe that's an obvious, but it was definitely a scary few hours lol. Thanks again Jason!

This still isn’t working for me. My original project folder is there, on my drive with the rest of the projects in my database. The db file is inside, in fact it never left. But when I open DaVinci, that one project is missing. If I try to create a new one like in this video, it doesn’t show up either. Am I just simply screwed? Going into my backups, I can see the jumbled file that is clearly my last save of this project (created last night at the last time I remember saving). But unlike for you, all my backup files are simply titled “Timeline.20240212160240” or something like that. None of them have db in them. The only db files are found in my project folders. Is there anything I can do?

Hey Jason, thanks so much for your videos - they have been super-helpful in getting me started in Davinci Resolve over the past month or so! Just a quick note about the "random numbers" at the end of the dp file names. Those are actually the time the project was saved. So for instance, the last auto backup listed in the auto backup window in your video was 20210914133738, or, to break it down in a format that's easier to read, 2021 09/14 13:37:38, so that was saved on September 14th, 2021 at 1:37:38 PM (13:37:38 in military time / 24h format). I've found those additional numbers helpful in figuring out what backup I wanted to go to so I hope this helps!

Great video! Is there a way to restore a timeline backup that is a text file similar to the Project DB backup file that you showed in ur video? I only have the timeline backup and not the project db...

All I have is 'user.db' and can't find project.db anywhere in my pc. Is there a way to restore my projects?
@JasonYadlovski Жыл бұрын
It Hass to be there somewhere, it would be wherever you put your database. If you put your database/project library on an external drive, that’s where you would find it.

Actually, I installed new version, and by default it is supposed to ask if to restore old version's data. But it did'nt ask me while i was opening this time. I forgot it and opened the new ones normally, and it is has no old data and no project.db . I searched every default or related file paths, Found it nowhere @@JasonYadlovski

Hi, thanks for this very clear and complete video. I juste restore a Windows 10 project file (Project.db.xxxxx) from a hard drive to a fresh Windows 11 install. Juste so you know, there weren't any "Resolve Disk Database" in the C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve directory. The real location was C:\Users\[my-windows-user-name]\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Resolve Disk Database The "Reveal File Location" button helped a lot. Thank you again!
@JasonYadlovski3 жыл бұрын
Hi! You’re welcome! You may need to show hidden folders to see it. It’s also assuming that you already have created a database when you first opened Resolve.

Hello, I need urgent help. I accidentally deleted the company's projects. Your video is very good. I was able to recover some projects, but how can I recover those projects that I accidentally deleted and do not have a backup like the ones in your video? Regards.
@JasonYadlovski5 ай бұрын
Hi! Any chance you had automatic backups turned on or maybe you backed up your database recently? That would be the only way to get it back unless you have something else backing up your computer that would also have your database included in that.

@@JasonYadlovski Hi, thanks for your reply. Yes, I have automatic backups because I always keep them active, where can I find them on a Mac? Regards.
@JasonYadlovski4 ай бұрын
To see where the backups are going, open Preferences, then Select User at the top, then Project Load and Save on the left. You'll see 'backup location' under Save Settings.
