How to restore the finish on an old Fishing Rod (LIKE NEW)

First let me appoligize for some of the audio quality. It was raining pretty hard and the noise got picked up.
In this video I go over how to make an old rod look new again by using an electric drill with a buffing pad along with some automotive rubbing compound. The results were very noticable.

Heck yeah man, this is exactly what I needed to know… I’ve got some old rods that are oxidized and I didn’t want to just throw them away. Thanks for the video, I thought about rubbing compound or possibly real fine steel wool or one of the non scratch blue scotch brite pads but I’m definitely gonna use the rubbing compound… Great video, that looks amazing!

Love the idea, found few rods in my garage that my dad used to use and also took me fishing 1st time, had some great time and also remind me of him, been wanting to refinishing it but scare I will make it worst, now seeing your way it really give me idea how to do it and make it look good and have it on display in the living room so I can remind me the fun times with him when I was a teenager

I just used some Nu-Finish scratch doctor car paint polish on a rod today and it worked great. Even just rubbing it by hand with a rag worked very well, and the rod in question is an old Fenwick Lunkerstik ( I'm guessing mid 90's but really don't know )

ying hang it was automotive rubbing compound. It’s for polishing a cars clear coat.

Sorry, rubbing compound doesn't polish! And won't you scratch the heck out of the rods finish if you use rubbing compound?
