Hi, just want to say I haven't changed my strings since I've got my ukukele three years ago. I didn't hear the sound getting worse, but mainly I was just too nervous to try and change the strings! Today, I watched your video, took heart (and the strings I got ages ago) and it worked really well! Thanks a lot... Well, in fact I actually watched quite a view different videos, but yours was the one I actually used. Great job!

Thank you so much for this short but informative video! I have been playing steel string acoustic guitar since forever, so I am very familiar with solid headstocks. But the tie bar bridge was new for me. I tried to put my strings on two other times following two other videos, but they just popped out of the bridge before I got them up to pitch! Third time's a charm though. Your technique of looping the end under the main string, then under the loop you just made, made all the difference!

I recently discovered I needed to do a string set change at 12:15 at night so the ukulele would be ready for "ukulele club" at my kid's school. I've changed many electric guitar and bass strings, even some acoustics, but never a tie bridge. I had it done by 1AM, but still needed break-in. My suggestion: use the existing strings as practice units for those portions you feel comfortable with, such as the tie portion. Trust me, you CAN do this. First, this video is good, so this is a fantastic start. Second, it's new to you so of course it will be a challenge, a challenge you can rise to overcome. Third, who cares how long it takes. If you want this to take 4 hours, then so be it. It's better to take your time and do the job right and to learn from it. Watch the video a few times, especially the parts that apply to your ukulele. I'm sure by now you've taken care of this and you're good to go.

Thank you for all your videos. I find them all very helpful. I bought some carbon D'Addario strings for my tenor ukulele and needed this video for instructions on the Loop-De-Loo method. But when I was putting on the thinnest A string, the loop came undone and I had already trimmed the length from both the top and bottom since I thought I was finished. I put the string on again using the Loop-De-Loo method and when tuning, it untied again! So I improvised and tried a Loop-De-Loop-De-Loo method and that held. Just wanted you to know. Again, thank you for all your videos. I always look forward to new ones.

Thanks for the video. At first I inserted the string twice through the tuning post to secure it according to other advice but quickly pulled it out because it was scraping off some of the string's outer coating. I then followed your method. I didn't cut my strings - other advice said to leave it which I agreed might be useful if a string breaks. I will keep it like that until the strings settle at least.

This was a great video especially since there aren't many other videos on changing the slotted bridges. You said to turn the tuning peg down and counterclockwise to tune up the new string. I did that and broke a new string when I cut the excess from the top. I was changing string 4 (G). I realized turning the peg down wasn't counterclockwise on that side of my uke. I've got it now! thanks for addressing various types of bridges and headstocks. a couple of posts brought up issues i also have: 1) to use thicker strings for low-G or baritone, any strategies how to check the uke, like the grooves in the nut and especially the slotted style saddle, and what proper methods to modify those areas? 2) saving strings from an old set for backup or revisiting an alternate tuning -- i suppose once the ends are cut that's it. is this why some people play with uncut strings like long whiskers sticking out?

I changed the strings on my Hricane the other night and had not yet seen your video ... when i replaced the G & A strings (classical headstock), I did not wind them like you said to do...will this cause a problem? - all of the strings are wound to the inside of the string hole on the peg. - Should I re-do them so they go the right way? - thanks so much for posting this video 🤗🤗

Hi and thanks for watching! I’m so glad that it helped. I think as long as the string is wound neatly to one side and not overlapping, and if the tuning doesn’t slip, I think you should be fine 😀.

I really enjoy your videos, this one is no exception! How about changing a string on an 8 hole no tie bridge? Would it be possible for you to make a video about changing a string on this type of bridge, I have a Lanikai FM-T uke. I am a complete novice when it comes to string changing. Help!🌞

Please check out my latest uke upload, just search: "bill hart good bad ugly" and you should locate an interesting video. Note: I don't have your skills, but I get quality time with my grandkids.

Great video! Thanks! How do I get rid of stiff/creaky tuning pegs? White grease? Do you have a recommendation? Would the music nomad stuff work? Thanks!

Nice video 😊 i was just checking to see if there was a good video on this subject that i can link people if they need some instuctions 😊 the only notes i have is 1. Clean your fretboard every time you change strings since it’s the best time to do so. 2. If your ukulele has a lose bridge keep track or take a picture off how it sit before you start since the intonation will be off if it falls off and you put it on the wrong way. 3. It is not allways nessesary to “baby” your instrument they are made to be used, sure take care off it but they are not made off glass. But still you you cover everything else and this will be the video i will send to people who needs some instuctions on changeing strings 😊 (Also great work, keep it up 😊)

I have a question, I have a Donner concert ukulele that has the pin method, but it has small metal pieces that you tie the string to to help secure it, then carefully insert into the ukulele and put the pins in. It also has a head similar to an electric guitar. Is there a way you might recommend I better tie the string to the metal? The small metal pieces are like what are used for guitar strings, and are probably from the same molds. It’s currently hard to find this ukulele, as it seems Donner has removed it from their production line. If I find it, I can link it so you can see it. I mainly ask because not only do I have one, but my sister has it in green (I have the blue one that has kinda an ombré shine)

Thank you for the bridge variety of how to change strings. So helpful! I went ahead and restrung my little one. All goes well with G, C and E string. I put on the A string (suppose it is A because it is in the packet that says A) but when I tune it it goes from E to G. Does that mean it is not an A string?
