Stefan, thank you so much for this video!! There is so little out there about throu hiking in Europe (compared to the USA), and even less about the Via Alpina! I am planning on doing the Via Alpina this summer (2025), and your videos were instrumental in preparing for it! Thank you so much man!!❤

just mention, that in each country the (cheap) food is different. in German spoken countries, the breakfast in the huts are different to e.g. Italy or France. you easily get there Müsli (cereals) which is perfect for hiking. just with plain water it is fine. you have such a great variety of tastes (from chocolate or dried fruits, crunchy or not....etc). In Südtirol or Slovenia they have typically the smoked meat, very dry bread, harder cheese and "Schnaps" (alcohol) for getting warm. normally you get everywhere bread. so taking honey in a squeeze bottle is normally a good idea. easy to handle and soft or hard bread you get often. by the way, on the Slovenian mountain trail you get these thicks soups, sausages and sauerkraut and "Sterz" (sweet & sour - try it!) in the huts. so you do not need to carry too much, especially in the tough Steiner Alpen (lots of up and downs if you collect all stamps). take enough water there and in Triglav NP (you know already). prices in Slovenia are moderate in the huts.

At the beginning of the video you show there is an elevation gain of 124 thousand meters over the 1,800km Via Alpina. Is that actually correct?? Maybe it should be feet?
@calveshikes8 күн бұрын
@@stirlingslingerland4547 no thats meters. Around 300,000m of loss and gain for the whole trail
