Small tip to mark the surfaces with black or red ink/marker so you can trace when it’s absolutely flat. Figure 8 motion is the correct way of lapping surfaces. And before you even start it would be a good idea to check flatness of the glass with a flatness ruler gauge and a filler gauge because the glass tends to curve when it’s thin and you load it by pushing the item of work on it. So thick glass is better or multiple glasses and measure it first. Good job all and all

As a vintage motorcycle mechanic, i do this everytime i separate cases.. Works awesome, on a 2T you can also sand your cylinder head, so its smooth and doesnt leak..

You can use polishing compound on your glass instead of sandpaper, you can change the grit a lot easier than with the sandpaper. We were using this method on scooters and snowmobiles back in the 70s. Great video, good wrenching

Top tip for using spray glue: cover your arms completely. If you have any amount of hair on your arms and if there is any (skin) exposed when you spray, the glue will stick to your arm hair and will be a sticky mess until it dries. Really annoying feeling.

Got to wonder would it be a good idea to have your plate fly cut, and or surface ground, when I use to machine cold roll steel, it would usually have a crown and edges would have slightly raised edges, I was lucky enough to sneak my cases in and use their lapping table with clover compound, but the glass idea is nice, manuals tell you to check shafts from trans on glass, never thought it would be good poor man's lapping table, or mobile, wonder if a small coffee table glass is good enough.
