People believe protective styling has to be this expensive fabulous hairstyle. For me, I plait my hair into about 6 dookie braids 😂 then pull those braids into a bun and wear it for a week adding oil and water as necessary 🤷🏽‍♀️ my shrinkage is to my ears but my length is to my bra strap Edit : I love protective style because I’m lazy and it grows my hair but you MUST have healthy hair habits before and after those styles. If not you just growing brittle hair that will break off once you take it out.

This is very true. For me personally, I need my hair in twists or protected to see growth or retain length. For other people I know, if they did that their hair would tangle up and be a mess. They wear wash and Gos and see great strides. If I did that, I'd be bald. 😅

I find it sad that black women have struggled and been confused about growing hair. Even though straight and less coily hair is "easier" to manage, what I find is that our 4b,4c hair WILL grow and YOU CAN retain length. Think about this: Straight haired girls don't manipulate their hair (and they retain a lot of length), 4c locd girls not manipulate their hair, and they retain a lot! It really is about leaving your hair alone!

@@stanfatou2002 i say try it. after my 3rd big chop, i wore NO protective styles, no twists nothing, granted my hair was a twa, it was easy to manage. i wore it lose for 2 years than it started getting longer so i started bunning (lose buns) and lose twists are great too. if you wear it lose, just moisturize every morning and every night. let me know how it goes, im currently wearing my hair lose 4c and all

My regimen -deep condition weekly, every 5-7 days -trim as i go -vitamins -mild protein treatments -oil my scalp -always wearing my bonnet -protective styling. Btw I've never worn a wig, braids or anything like that. I just do sum twists and leave my head alone. -patience😂

This is literally awful, but for like two years ( a little less actually I think) I didn't take care of my hair. . . I also never touched it besides washing here and there. So my hair literally grew from fully relaxed to being natural at my ears (not stretched, counting the relaxed parts my hair was down to my shoulders). I have since started to take care of my hair. But this just shows that Chazzzisawesome is 100% correct that your hair will grow regardless and if you don't touch your hair a lot less breaks off.

Same here! I use wigs a lot and when i wear my natural hair they always say omg your hair is long. 4 years ago i had a fade and now my hair is mid back length almost waist length. I stayed at mbl so long due to too many wash n go's. Now I wash moisturize with aloe vera and water, twist with melanin elongating cream and seal with fro butter. My hair stays super soft and moisturized for days! Hopefully in July for my 5th year being natural I will hit full waist length. Happy hair growing!

Massaging the scalp is also extremely helpful in hair growth, because it does stimulate the scalp. That is another beauty of the shampoo brush - by it's very nature it is a scalp massager. It has been wonderful to watch your length, and length changes! You give great info, chica! Thank you!

I've noticed that being on top of my weekly deep condition treatments, keeping my ends nice and trimmed, sleeping with a satin bonnet AND satin pillowcase, and wearing low manipulation protective styles has truly helped me out. I've work extensions like braids and wigs in the past, but for some reason my hair does not retain length the same way as it does when its just out and about in a protective style. I must say, this video is SPOT ON.

Preach, Chaz! This is truth! My hair did not grow at a normal rate for a good while bc I did not tend to it (I mostly kept in low-cut styles for years, but BOY when I decided to grow it out, I had to JUMP START this head with some simulation 🤦🏾‍♀️- made me nervous that my hair could not grow anymore 😂😂... but regular washing to keep my scalp clean, intensively moisturizing my hair, and keeping it braiding/twisted in a no tension style that didn’t need to be touched other than moisturizing it did some magic. Now I’m being consistent so I can predict being out the twa stage sooner than I did before. Second time at this natural hair growth journey and I finally understand what Chaz is talking about. When I big chop last year and I watched your video about the Shampoo brush I've using it since then thank you for the advice. I'm a wash and go girl I'm afraid to do braids etc I've saw family experience breakage and edges torn out. However I never had my hair blown out since my big chop or any kind of heat I do moisturize my hair deep condition etc I really enjoy your view thank you.

No problem and if you do braids yourself that might be the key to avoiding breakage.

WoW your hair has grown a lot. I had to re-subscribe to your channel (new phone). Hi 🐻❤ Every six months or so I blow my hair out and straighten it. To have it trimmed my slit ends hide in my curls. 20.00 at Supercuts every sic months ain't bad. I use to go monthly when my hair was relaxed and that was $65.00....

Hiii! This vid randomly popped up for me & im so glad it did cuz girl u speak my language!! I used to relax my hair & yes I loved to just wear my hair out but what I loved also is if I decided to style it it was easy & relaxing my hair was solely for manageability! But had to go to a new stylist who over processed my hair I would tell her my goal is not bone straight its jus loose enough to manage but she wld leave it in mad long& of cours my hair start breaking drastically. Chiiile smfh anyway long story short I found a braider I committed to her & started doing my own cuts until now im natural. BUT now that I'm here its aaaaaaaagh at the detangle, I feel lk im in a fight with my hair every wash day. My hair type is certified Kink😆 the back is a little loose id say prob 4a but the rest is 4c. I dont mind having super kinky hair its jus the detangle/manageability part I have issue with bec i hate feeling lk me& my hair got beef the way we fight😩😩 anyways ill check out the brush u mentioned and perhaps that blow dryer, I hate that it looks lk a whole vacuum cleaner tho😩😆lol anyways thanks for the tips & for not being a natural nazi bec the way how alot of naturals talk make me wanna jus go hit the creamy crack cuz i dont need all the zillion hairstyles with pounds of eco gel im good on alla dat! lol ok Thanks, byyyeeee!!

Chazzzisawesome isn’t dermatologist for skin? I mean I’ll have to admit I’ve never knew how to take care of my hair since I was young. My mom would always comb through my hair when it’s dry. I’ve only started learning how to take care of my hair since 2016 but I still feel like it’s the same length. Idk my hair grows especially when I get box braids but I guess I’m having trouble retaining length

I did a ton of hair styles when relaxed lol. Bleaching, cutting, washing 3 days a week, setting, blow drying etc, and my hair really faired better and retained length better than it is now. It doesn’t help that I developed alopecia after going natural and have had to keep cutting it. I went back to hair grease and it’s retained much more length.

When I first saw the shampoo brush in one of your videos many moons ago, I went to the beauty supply store and bought one & put the denman in the drawer. It's pretty beat up now, but it does it's job. I also use the Felicia Leatherwood Detangling Brush, it works well too. Use the brush people! Your fingers can't get everything!

@@Chazzzisawesome I felt like I was doing more damage with my fingers than with the brush. With the brush there is resistance when there's a tangle, with your fingers you just rip through it.
