why are tandems so popular there?

Well there bigger so they can carry more, and have more axles for the weight balance, every truck has a weight restriction on each axle, if the weight is too much on 1 axle you can get a ticket and there pretty expensive. i'm geussing theire weight limit total is around 60 tons? Here in belgium there maxed oud at 44 tons, (60 tons if your driving these kind of combinations but restricted on where you may come)
