I just got one of these. It has a few hours of direct sunlight in a southern facing window and is doing well in my desert climate. Thanks for the tips and info!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE geeky long explanations and tough love plant tips. I'd rather learn the right way than learn the hard way. Thank you so much. Been doing research and you're the 3rd person that has suggested water props. Off to get a moisture meter ❤

Is there an update on this plant? I’d love to see it!

@mudchris15 thank you for the interest! I made a short video recently about it. It has fully recovered showing no signs of bugs or big damage. 😃 kzbin.infoaQnm6Trt3s0?si=iKiaRSaLy7bEatAv

I would really love to see the new video of the plant's progress, where can I find it please? @@NatureMan1

Whoops. I thought the splotchy stuff on the leaves was just supposed to be there, but now I nkow it's probably spider mites. I've been treating my tree for scale, so hopefully that will help the mite problem too. What fertilizer do you use for your ficus? I see such a range of ratios. I'm hoping I can revive it.
@NatureMan111 ай бұрын
Slow release fertilizer is best. A stressed plant can be damaged by too much fertilizer. I would personally try Bio-Tone Starter Ferilizer for a better root system. Or you can simply do Osmocote slow release fertilizer pellets

Spider Mites are nasty. Still battling them on plants. Neem oil also works great as a treatment for mites

I have a very sick Audrey Ficus that I caused harm to by moving it outside and scorched some leaves from direct sunlight. I brought it back inside andI have had so many issues with it. How did your propagation turn out?
@NatureMan14 ай бұрын
@jlouhand Thanks for the comment! Yeah, leaf scorch will happen when a plant is not acclimated to the sun. Leaf scorch doesn't mean your tree is sick, so treatment isn't necessary. However cutting it back will allow it to flush new growth and also allow it to become a full plant again. Pretty good, I've also rooted other Ficus species as well.

@@NatureMan1the trunk and branches of mine a pale grey ish color which concerns me. It has a whopping seven leaves which seem to be thriving even though a couple of them are scorched. I am not ready to give up on the plant yet, I’m considering propagating.

How did you get rid of the bug problem?
@NatureMan1 Жыл бұрын
It was treated by the former owner before returned to the store. I also treated it again just to be sure. Insecticidal Soap works great for me. Organic alternative to Insecticides. Need Oil IMO isn't the best, but definitely helps

Scrubbing each leaf and stem also works very well

Can you link the moisture meter you use? I bought a cheap one and it broke within weeks
@NatureMan17 ай бұрын
They aren't supposed to break. When sticking in soil make sure to be gentle. I've had that happen to me before, especially in very root-bound soils. Moisture meters are cheap

Hi I just got one and noticed some black spots...what am I doing wrong??
@txdbstx89677 ай бұрын
Sounds like not enough indirect light and too much water. This combination will lead to dark spots on the leaves due to the lack of light. Not enough light for photosynthesis so the plant can drink the water it was given. This is a common scenario for ficus trees. Move the tree closer to a window that has good light and don't water again until the top few inches of the soil has dried. Use a moisture meter like was shown in this video. Good luck.

Hard to say without seeing it, however in the past I've noticed black spots on leaves can be a result of fungal infection as result of overwatering. You need to let the plant dry out before watering again and I would spray it with neem oil or a systemic fungicide. Best of luck! 😊
