@TechEyeMan7 ай бұрын
Yep that’s right, the higher voltages can be tricky. you could try using the charger directly via some wires but the charges usually don’t charge unless they detect the battery/bms. otherwise you might have to get into the battery to the cells and charge the groups of cells individually.

Hello. Thanks for the vid. I have the same scooter and issue. To ask, could you explain briefly how I would use a drill charger (mine is 24V) in place of the variable power supply you use? Many thanks.
@TechEyeMan3 ай бұрын
if the drill charger is the same voltage then it may work but depending on the drill charger, it may have some electronics in it that communicates with the drill battery to get some more info such as temperature before it starts charging so it might not be possible to bypass. You could however use the drill battery itself to try jumping your dead battery by using some paper clips or similar thick wire to make contact between the positive and negative of the drill battery (they are usually the 2 outermost contacts) and then connect them to the positive and negative of the scooter battery like in the video, but i would be careful again of the current because there is no limit on how much it will take so make sure you monitor the temperature and keep an eye out for anything unusual.

@TechEyeMan2 ай бұрын
if you have a multimeter, check the voltage at the battery terminal (before the bms) to make sure it holds charge and stays there. if the voltage drops after a few hours then one or more cells may be bad, if the battery holds charge then likely it’s a bad BMS

Hi Isaac, sorry to hear about that. Hard to say exactly what happened but i’m going to assume you shorted out the display. there’s typically no protection such as a fuse for these so your best bet is to replace it and be careful when reinstalling it. it’s worth noting that sometimes if the brake lever is pressed or being triggered it could stop it from powering on(as you were working on the accelerator), so worth checking that too. i’m not familiar with that scooter but have a look around if there are any fuses that can be replaced and then the next step would be to replace the display.

What voltage would I need the power supply to be at to jump a 52 battery?
@TechEyeMan Жыл бұрын
52v would be a 14s pack which would need to be charged to 58.8 volts, which is a bit high for most power supplies. you might have to charge the individual cells or the series of cells up inside the pack, that or find a battery or put some batteries in series so you can get to that higher voltage.

hi steve, that’s correct, you need to jump it with a higher voltage than the battery pack, if you can’t get that high a power supply(which is hard) you could use several smaller batteries in series but if all else fails you will have to disassemble the back and charge the cells directly, each cell (or group of cells on parallel) will need to be charged to 4.2 volts.

The XT 30 terminal you explained is that cable the actual output cable from the battery or charging input battery cable connected to BMI. Should you issolate the cable positive cable when charging from your boost power supply( will the BMI be damaged)
@imanel-gadaa70202 жыл бұрын
Hi, Myung. The answer is they are the same cable. the bms runs the negative cable from the battery, through the bms then out to the load and the same for charging. remember that the bms job is to balance the battery in both charging and discharging. what we are wanting to do is bypass the bms and charge straight from the battery output. but in some cases it’s the charger and not the bms that detects the low voltage, in that case you can jump charge it after the bms.

Hi, it’s an interesting question, it depends on the charger. Most chargers don’t allow current to pass unless there’s some feedback from the battery. If you could hook up a wire to the positive and negative of the charger and do the same bms bypass it could work, but if it doesn’t then the charger isn’t letting current through, it would need to be tricked using a resistor value but i haven’t tried this.

Hey there! that’s strange, try to make sure that you can see that the cables you are connecting the charger to are indeed going straight to the battery cells and not through the bms. You should also be able to read a voltage from those wires before you charge and it shouldn’t be too low because the cells should still have some juice. i can’t see why the current would be dropping to zero and back unless it’s not going to the cells directly or there’s a break somewhere in the line. In the worst case scenario you can strip the pack down until you get to each of the cells and charge them directly to 4.2 volts each(some might be in parallel and that’s fine) i wouldn’t leave it unattended because there is no protection agains over charge or over heating if one or more cells are damaged.

@@TechEyeMan It charged ok. After 90-minutes the blue light was on steadily (not blinking) on the battery pack and the scooter showed a 2% charge. I couldn't get a disassembled scooter to charge using its internal drive controller (even though the scooter dash showed no errors). I charged the battery again manually for several hours until the charger just turned itself off (as instructed by the battery management computer BMS in the battery pack). After full charging, the disassembled scooter kept seeing a 2% battery and the scooter would not allow charging. A red light is on - on the controller board but I assume this is a ground fault caused by the scooter screws being unconnected. I'll report back after I put everything together.

Its a late reply , I have one like that with different brand, i have b4 a Smach Mars 5' tire that's too small for a rocky road its useless, you can easily feel humps and bumps the tire with Hub motor wears off quickly without a suspension, but if manufacturer chooses a big 8" tire for 26v E scoot it would be more reliable like the Dolphin escooter 26v - 8" tube tire

I've got my battery from one volt all the way to 39 volts. I did the same thing and sooner or later the charger recognized it and it started charging the battery. But the two large main ports that come off of the battery that plug up to the scooter when I put a multimeter on these and even on top of the wires where they come out of the battery there's no power coming out of them. But the battery pack itself shows it has 39 volts in it. I've got connectivity from those two wires one is red one is black. I hope the 20 volt battery directly up to the scooter and the scooter turns on. But the battery pack itself has no voltage coming out of the red and black wire
@TechEyeMan2 жыл бұрын
that sounds like a dead bms mate. that’s probably also why it was shorting when you were trying to charge it with the other battery. if the pack itself is charged but there’s no voltage coming out of the main leads then the bms is dead

my 48v ebike battery is reading 1v at the charger input and 44v at the battery output , dont really want to open the battery do you think my 48v solar charge controller could jump charge my battery?
@TechEyeMan3 жыл бұрын
i’m assuming you have access to the battery leads if you’re able to read that 44v. if it’s a 48 volt solar charger and it’s outputting more than 48 volts then it should be able to jump it as long as the bms doesn’t inhibit it. give it a shot for max 1 minute at a time (straight on the battery positive and negative) and keep measuring the voltage after each attempt. It should start rising. When it gets to above 48 volts the original charger should work like normal. Otherwise you’ll have to open the battery.

Sounds reasonable but I wouldn't do this with the 72v 20AH sitting on my workbench. Too dangerous. Will trickle charge independent cell groups with a high impedance charger. Will take awhile but I won't burn the place down. Small battery as shown may be safe but keep it away from flammables and get a bag of sand or a fire extinguisher. Seen some nasty fire damage in the forums.

@TechEyeMan3 жыл бұрын
you will need at least a multimeter/volt meter. Check the voltage first coming from the charger to make sure the charger is working, next check the voltage on your scooter battery. If its totally dead, it wont allow the charger to charge the batteries and you will have to do the above fix in this video. Could also be a bad controller etc. Tick the easy boxes first.

Hello TechEyeMan. Thanks for the awesome good explained video! Can I do this with a Li-Ion bicycle battery of 42V that dropped to 2V? I don't have the special charger but I have a laptop charger of 19V. Could this work safely? Thanks, S.
@TechEyeMan3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sammy, i would say that it probably will not work if your laptop charger is advanced enough it probably will not allow the dead battery to charge. but you might be lucky and it will charge it however it will only charge it to around 30v which might not be enough for your ebike charger to take over. give it a shot though. another thing is your battery voltage is very low. i suspect it’s totally destroyed the cells by now, unless you are only measuring voltage after the bms and not at the battery terminal itself. see if you can measure the voltage of each individual cell if you can get to them (the will look like big AA batteries.) and each cell should be around 3.7 volts

@@TechEyeMan Little info: My E bike was charged but stored for a long time. Now it seems discharged. I had 2V on the battery, the black and red cables. Unfortunately the battery is completely glued with a kind of black silicon in a aluminium tube case. I think impossible to get to the batteries without damaging. Thanks for the help.
@UnbelievablyBased2 жыл бұрын
This method is only good if your battery has dropped slightly below the cutoff. If your 42V battery is at 2V on the output, something is really wrong. When a lithium battery drops too far below the cutoff and you attempt to force recharge, conductive crystals can form inside cells that can form an internal short... very dangerous. Like TechEye said, each cell should be around 3.7 volts. You have several of these in series that add up to 42V, if the assembly is reading 2V, there is a serious malfunction. I would not attempt to charge that.

I have a similar issue! I left my scooter fully charged around August last year. Today the sun was out so I pulled the scooter out and as expected, completely flat. I plugged in to charge and initially the light stayed green on the charger. I kept trying to turn it on and after about 30min, the scooter managed to turn on and began charging🎉 .. unfortunately that would have been too easy :( Excited af, I left to charge fully and ran downstairs to test when it was done. Something said make sure it works unplugged and as I said that, 10seconds later the battery was dead.😢😢😢 Do you reckon this method will fix the battery? It was maintained very well before it was left to discharge or will it need another battery? Replacing will cost £500-600 which isn’t ideal, I wanted to upgrade my build but for this price it might make sense to upgrade to another scooter 💔 Please let me know 🙏
@TechEyeMan Жыл бұрын
sorry to hear that. look i would start by pulling out the battery and trying to see what the voltage is straight on the battery. sounds like some cells are damaged and discharging. worst case you might just need to replace a damaged cell. best case is you can try this method and it will be all that’s needed
@Ultimaso6 Жыл бұрын
@@TechEyeMan thank you! I ended up testing the voltage on the battery, was reading 3-5V (from a 60V 20Ah battery) so likely some cells are definitely dead. I normally do these repairs myself but a local shop has said they can fix between £100-200. For this price I would love to attempt but purchasing all the tools required + the risky repair may not be worth the pain. This video helped me greatly thanks so much !!
