When dismounting, stepping out of the stirrup onto to the ground can be extremely dangerous - foot can get caught, horse can move etc. After bringing right leg over, lean over the saddle, release left foot from stirrup then, holding horn and back of saddle slide off the horse.

Thank you! I was riding with a western saddle yesterday and i was struggling to get my left foot out thank you for this tip i will use it for my ride today

As an unfit, overweight, older rider I find that standing after dismount is difficult. After a couple hours in the saddle my hips just don’t want to go to the correct angle to stand and simply balancing is uncomfortable. Only takes a moment to stretch and regain balance - but it’s a bit like getting off a boat after a long voyage.

i wouldn't slide off (touching the saddle) while sliding down. i would kinda push yourself off when getting down because your clothes can get caught in some part of the safdle

We are going on a family holiday from the UK to California to do some trail riding. The riding style is so different from what I'm used to! The reins are so slack and your stirrups are so long. I think I'm going to have to just relax in the saddle and leave my jodhpurs at home 😆 Thank you for the lovely video. It looks beautiful there x
@lmnolan6870 Жыл бұрын
You're going to love it. Definitely leave the jodhpurs at home! I'm currently learning English before buying my first horse in the UK after 25 years of western riding in Canada! I find English much more difficult and complicated than western.

That was very clear and informative. Nice video :) Maybe getting off the horse can be easier where instead of keeping the left foot in it, we hold onto both hands and the stomach on the saddle to be able to remove the left foot and then let ourselves slide slowly to the ground. But maybe it's not how it is supposed to be done. I have no idea about Western horse riding and I am all the way from France :)
