My friend and I grew up riding together and had several horses. We both trained and rode for years, we were very experienced riders. She was riding a horse she sold to a friend to help her out one day, the horse tripped in the arena and fell. My friend was thrown into the ground on her head. She had to be air lifted to a trauma hospital where it was confirmed she had suffered a traumatic brain injury. Thank God after a year in the hospital and many more in recovery, shes able to do most everything. She can’t ride anymore but she takes care of all her own needs and is doing well considering. She was not wearing a helmet. A helmet is like a safety belt in a car, it may not save you from everything but you stand a better chance at staying safe when you wear one. I’m glad you made the decision to wear yours. Hope you had a blast.

Wonderful, as a child reading Margarite Henry's books and Walter Farley's too, Arabians were my favorite. As an adult I was late (46) getting my own horse and my skills made me think that Arabians might be too much for me. In heaven I will ride them all.

Yeah! Helmets are important. Most 1/2 Arabians are saddlebred mix. They cross for size and flash. The Arabian shows recognize 1/2 as there is a registry.

Who ever put on that ride did a fantastic job! So cool! I sure miss having horses after watching this.I vote for you to get a horse you can ride all day on. You have a lot of wonderful projects but having one that just gives you the feel of riding and relaxing with others and not working at it would be so good. As a horse to keep you focused on what your working towards with the others. I loved this whole day and I wasn't even there. A heart mending day. Happy Trails CC!

Thanks for the tag-a-long. I really enjoyed the scenery and your monologue. it's been years since I last rode a horse ... I found my legs were no longer capable of 'bowing'. The scent of a horse and a cut field of hay and sunshine ... it is just about the perfect combination. I'm sitting here, feeling a smile across my face and I can almost smell your horse, the hay and feel the sun. Thanks ... this was outstanding!

What a joy to go on this trip with you CC I imagined so well the fun of trotting and galloping on those fields and would have loooved to be with you guys! Letting the horse go is fastest it can get, we call "courrir ventre a terre" meaning litterally "running belly on the floor" or "belly to the ground" ; )) and those fields were perfect for this type of 'letting loose'

Standardbreds can also be tough sturdy horses. I would love an Arab/Standardbred cross! I think this mare is probably a Saddlebred cross though, from what I could see of her head. I've had two Arabians in my life, and both were such Awesome trail horses. Dancer, Shamus and I were great partners. I miss them sorely. With fibromyalgia and at 73, I'm afraid my trail riding days are behind me. But I have wonderful memories of my boys. They started out wanting go places, and came back the same way. Both were very intelligent, and very easily trained. Both were stallions around 4 yrs of age, at purchase, and because I didn't have a place to keep a stallion I had to have both gelded. Neither were broke when I got them. Shamus had had a saddle on for about a week, before I picked him up. Both were very smart and easily picked up anything you asked of them. I miss them.😔💙

@learobinson4450

Arabians have one less vertebrae than other breeds. Western saddles are designed to fit stock breeds & are too big. English saddles are usually meant for Sport breeds & Warmbloods so they don’t distribute the rider’s weight correctly. There are Arabian saddles designed specifically for the breed. They come in Western & all types of English styles. Full blooded Arabians need these Arabian saddles, not smaller saddles designed for breeds that have backs with one more vertebrae. If she’s going to ride Ziggy she needs to get a Western style Arabian saddle.

These riding videos are really nice. They are so beautiful, they make me cry. When I was in college I worked in Yellowstone two summers, and I was also in the Peace Corps in Micronesia after that. Subsequently I sailed to Tahiti from Honolulul on my own 36' sloop two different times. I have had many nice experiences but this type of video is really tops. I would love to be able to be out there with the group on a great horse like Scout. You should get a younger Arabian "Frisco Bill" It's nice to be able to drive a Cadillac. It's important to do these things while you're young. I doubt Ziggy could keep up with Scout. However, Ziggy would probably be an ideal horse for me.
