Thanks for that class!!..i lern a lot... i didn't know nothing...and i am in the prosess to buy a bike. I have a question... if the up shifting is pulling up; the down shifting is presing down the shifter??
@TWOWHEELD
@TWOWHEELD Жыл бұрын
@deusdeditrodriguez4301 depends on the bike, but most are going to be gear 1 is down a half click from neutral, then the rest up to shift. Then all down to shift down. 1, N, 2, 3, 4, 5 type thing.

As a begginner, I can say I find it a bit overwhelming (coordinating downshift, front and rear brakes), until with much practice it becomes a second nature or intuitive reflex. Thank you for demonstrating these steps patiently and clearly.

How do you know when do down shift gears when breaking? Also awesome video very helpful!
@TWOWHEELD
@TWOWHEELD 5 ай бұрын
When I downshift, I basically reverse the speed I am normally in for gears when shifting speeding up. Rev matching helps to momentarily raise the rpm as you are downshifting to avoid the rear wheel from locking up. If you let the clutch out too quick, that can happen if you are quite matched. If I am stopping for a stop sign. I just shift down as I am slowing down to end up in first gear when stopped. Then you are ready to take off. It’s a little difficult explaining in a message. Maybe I should do a video sometime on downshifting. Hope this helps in the meantime!

Hi. I am considering myself a new rider. I am 58 years old, and 5’7”tall. 164lbs. I haven’t ridden in 20 years since my epileptic seizure. I recently got a 2001 Honda Shadow vt750. I like it a lot and I want to get re licensed to ride it to work. About a half hour trip one way. My concern is I feel like I am reaching out too far with the existing handlebars. Do you have an honest opinion about the bars? I like your videos. Very helpful. Thank you.
@TWOWHEELD
@TWOWHEELD 3 жыл бұрын
Nice to hear you are getting back into riding! Also, I am glad you enjoy the channel! If you feel like you are stretched out, you could look at seeing if you can make an adjustment to bring the bars back to you a little. If that doesn’t help, you may need to consider different bars, or possibly just a different seat. There are seats you may be able to find that will move you forward a little bit. It will take a little research, but you should be able to find a good combination to set up your rider triangle to fit you best. I hope that helps.

@TWOWHEELD

@@Ghostrider42047 if the stop is close and you are going faster and you have time to stop, you want to use your emergency braking techniques. Apply both front and rear brake appropriately for each stop while squeezing the clutch to disengage the gears, while shifting all the way down to first. I would practice your emergency braking as much as you can in an empty parking lot so when you are on the street, it will come natural to you.

You might be on to something there! I learned a lot from watching KZbin videos, so that is what got me into motovlogging. That and it kind of became a hobby. It takes a lot of commitment, but you can set that commitment. You will need an action camera, a microphone, and some editing software. There might be a few things to grab inbetween, but just start small if you want. Heck, even just a cell phone can do the trick! I would be happy to give you any pointers along the way if need be. All the shifting is on the left, and all the braking is on the right. If you remember that, you will be good! 😊

ok I’ve never ridden but kinda remember hearing how to shift then my uncle inherited my dad’s motorcycle when he moved no one knew what to do I kept saying the shift is in the left find the middle and shift it then we were able to move it minus the flat tires

@amadosanchez4849 most street bikes are 1 N 2 3 4 5 6 depending on the bike and how many gears there are. Usually 1 is all the way down, then the rest are up using the foot shifter on the left. The hand lever is your clutch. Similar to a vehicle clutch. Takes a little getting used to.

Man I wish I lived in an area that didn't have so much traffic. I so want to get a bike. I rode scooters when I was younger. But always wanted a real bike. Other drivers scare me, particularly where I live :(

Yeah, we are fortunate to live where we do when it comes to traffic. Always have to be watching the others to stay safe.

I bought one. I like the bike because it's pretty, and that's pretty much the only reason I like it... but I don't love it. It's big, it's heavy, it's difficult to work on, some design decisions about it you're just banging your head against a brick wall wondering why... for example, the vacuum operated fuel petcock that can fail, the keys danging off the side, the kickstand safety switch, the rear foot pegs way up high where your back feet cant shift to them to dissipate a leg cramp, you have to constantly be cleaning up the bike and polishing it, the lack of included luggage carrying cargo capacity, the lack of an overdrive 5th gear indicator, the lack of a fuel gauge even though the gas cap is right there one could sit into, the fact the fenders are made out of plastic which scratches easy, the fact that it's absolutely no frills at all, the fact your right leg gets warm in winter right over both pipes, but your left leg freezes, the fact that tires for it... are expensive (compared to my Rebel), the fact that you can't push start it without risking your neck. I would absolutely not recommend the Shadow as a first bike. Master a bike, then a moped, then a classic rebel 250, then a 450cc.... in that order... before you try and bite off this heavy not so nimble 750. Going between the 750 and the 250 is like night and day... one is like sitting on top of a freight train, and the other is like flicking and dashing around a nimble hummingbird through the air.

Thank you for you comment! I definitely wouldn’t deny all of those things you pointed out. All bikes will have their quirks and what not. I think even between all the different Shadows, there are some differences. I feel they designed the bike for someone a bit shorter than myself. With me being tall, I feel like a giant when I ride it. It worked great for both myself, and my wife to ride. She is 5’10” and I am 6’3” and neither of us have an issue balancing or maneuvering the Shadow Spirit. The nice thing about this bike, is its overall durability. It’s a fun little bike to beat on so to say now for both of us. I learned on this bike for a few months, and then moved up to a big 2007 Road King. I now have a 2019 Road King and my wife after a year in the Spirit, rides a Heritage, but can definitely handle a Street Glide or my Road King. Oh, another downfall with the Shadows. The seats are terrible, especially for two up riding. 😆 I grew up on a bicycle. Pretty much all day everyday I was on one until I was a teenager and could drive. Then, at 39, I bought my Spirit and was a natural. I don’t disagree with your transition recommendation, but for me, I was a natural to riding, and I know I could have started bigger. I bought the Shadow because I was told an 1100-1400cc cruiser would be too big for me. For some it is, for me, I wish I would have started bigger. But it worked perfect for my wife, where bigger for her would not have been good. When I took the course, the 250 was too small for me, and was actually more dangerous for me to ride because of my height. I will leave it at that. I appreciate your comment to give others who may see this comment, another perspective of why they should/shouldn’t begin or buy a Shadow. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thanks for watching! I would say knowing the general concept of how a clutch works would put you in the know a bit more. There is a little bit more to it, though. If you can ride a bicycle and shift gears, and can imagine putting them together, that helps as well. I would recommend taking a beginner motorcycle course to see if it would be something you like. Then you would know before making a commitment of purchasing a motorcycle. Hope that helps.

I have never claimed to know it all when it comes to riding motorcycle. Did you watch the entire video? These are some of the basics to riding, straight out of an MSF book. Have you made any videos to help people learn something about riding? There are a lot of people who have commented on this video thanking me for the help. They may have been thinking about riding, but not sure if they can do it, but after watching this video, it gives them the confidence to give it a try. Stay safe out there if you even ride. ✌🏼
