In this video, I show you how to ride the Ripstik. It is fun! It is like a skate board but with two caster wheels, two independent platforms and a torsion bar connecting them. I am practicing in an empty parking lot with all the protective gear, including my helmet, wrist guards and knee pads. To start of learning, I used a wall as support and practiced getting on and off the rip stik. You have to kick off with your front foot on the front platform and then place your rear foot on the rear platform. Once you find your balance, you can propel yourself forward by pumping on the ripstik. This involves a snake like motion to move the ripstik left and right. I practice moving around the parking lot in figure 8s. I also put obstacles to weave around them. I even practice riding fakie, with my weak right foot forward. And lastly, I even try raising the front of the ripstik in the air. This is my one month progress report. I got this ripstik a month ago because I thought it would be a lot of fun, so I am still learning how to ride it. If any of you have any tips, please share them in the comments below. Thanks for watching! I hope you liked this video. If you did, please click like, comment or subscribe.

Tip for learners- never go downhill. Your life will flash before you 😂 Going uphill is safe and a good exercise.

Yes, sounds like good advice about going downhill! These Ripstiks have no brakes. Thanks and have a good day!

If you are good going downhill is exhilarating and the ripstik excels in maneuverability and ability to slow down by increasing your slip angle in turns. There’s a video of me using this technique on my channel actually

What happens if I mess up and I can’t move and I start falling backwards? Dude I’d probably die

If you are going downhill, move your ripstik zig zag to maintain a smaller speed, its easy just takes practice. You can go down a steep hill, just do very very wide zig zag movements and avoid going in a straight line that's where you'll definitely see your life flash before you lol. Another tip is to go around small circles to improve your balance, control, and sharper turns. Just stay in one spot and go in circles as small as possible. I made that strategy to get better. Your probably way better now but a tip never hurts ^_^

lol took me like 3 hours of practice to even be able to roll down hill without bailing in 2 feet. I'm getting better but as someone with no serious skateboard experience it's kinda spooky when going fast.

Do ripstick and snowboard have same feel/mechanics? As I want to learn snowboarding fast for my trip later this year but I live where there is no snow.

Thanks for the question. I think it is similar due to the sideward stance and the turning using leaning, twisting and compression. However, there are some inferences like the wave like motion or the wiggle to get it moving, and it only has two wheels. These do not feel like snowboarding. Skateboarding or surf skating may feel better because of the board, the movements and the four wheels giving you the feeling of the snowboard edges.

You're moving your arms too much. Also, think "sway" instead of wiggle. Your wheels will last much longer if you incorporate pushing into your regular acceleration.

@@vilramos When I say pushing, I mean not only pushing from your back side, but especially from your front side just like on a skateboard. That second type takes work, but it's very worth it. As soon as you get comfortable riding, practice in switch. This will enable you to last longer by not having your right foot wear out on you.
