How to Ride an ADULT TRICYCLE: Retrain Your Brain to Ride a Trike as an Adult or Senior

How to ride an adult tricycle, something a lot of adults and seniors start googling after they buy their first 3 wheel bike. Many adults who get on a tricycle for the first time are surprised when they realize their ability to ride a two wheel doesn't exactly correlate to being able to ride a three wheel bike for adults. The way a three wheeler bike turns and balances is completely different from a two wheel bike. Now this doesn't mean a 3 wheel bike is unsafe or doesn't balance properly. More often than not adult and senior riders need to retrain their brain. It's important when getting on an adult tricycle for the first time that a three wheel bike is different than a two wheel bike. Since a lot of bike riders have built up an unconscious ability to ride a two wheel bike, their mind takes over when they get on an adult trike and they think their two wheel tendencies will properly properly drive a three wheel bike. Unfortunately it won't, and that is why it is important as an adult learning to ride a tricycle you need allow your mind to think of a trike as different than a two wheel bike. It requires different movements and weight transfers, and it turns very different. If you keep your mind open you can pick it up very fast but if you continue to ride a three wheeler bike like a two wheel bike you will continue to have trouble learning to ride an adult tricycle. It may take a few rides to retrain your brain, but over time you will. Just remember you are not alone in learning to ride an adult tricycle, we've done hundreds of rides with first time trike riders and many struggle with the transition from two wheels to three. But everyone figures it out, it may take 5 minutes or it may take a few rides, but you'll get it and once you do you'll love your new adult 3 wheel bike.

I tried an electric trike for the first time yesterday - and as years as a cyclist, I found myself steering in the opposite direction at times, and generally feeling completely out of my depth haha... It turns out a lot of it is the instinctive counter-steering and leaning tendencies that don't translate from a bicycle to a tricycle. Thanks for the video!

Ty so much. I brought a tricycle I just kept going in circles. Once seeing your video I was able to ride my bike. I’m a 65year old. I went to a large parking lot and finally was able to get it. Whew.

I have a 3wheel trike eith back seat i purcahced off someone that put a electric wheel kit on it and peddle assist but i wished it had fat tire wheels on it where can i order one in the uk please 💓
