One of the better videos for sure. Thank you. I am 63 and I am going into day three. Observations: My legs were weak to begin with so I was VERY shaky and tired quick. I highly recommend stretching before and after training. (I hate to stretch) and taking an anti inflammatory (Advil). You are going to have a lot of soreness. EVERYWHERE. You will be twisting at the waist A LOT to keep your balance / direction / keeping the wheel under you.. Watch how other new riders use their arms for control for turns, going forward and such. If you panic and need to slow down fast, use a sitting motion. IMO.

As an experienced mountain biker just dabbling into EUC videos and getting hyped; I ended up jumping in, buying a used Kingsong, for both commuting and work-purposes. My overconfidence and allowing myself to be mislead by only watching review videos resulted in me making precisely the mistakes you highlighted. Yours is really the best tutorial + your day 1 video. For the first hour I would stomp on the platform and/or try to hold the wheel with my hand in an awkward position or try to stand up from seated or nearly seated. Then I watched your tutorial, followed exactly what you said, and was riding within another hour. Could have avoided all the extra bruising 😅😅. One thing I can add from my experience is to consciously activate your core when learning that first step up onto the wheel.

If you're a beginner and still scared of narrow places - probably because you're afraid of falling at really slow speeds - try watching some UC riders' videos (UCs, not EUCs). You'll see that's a lot easier, on an EUC, to try to mimic someone riding an UC. "If they trained and can, I sure can, as well. Just a matter of training enough - the right way."

Great video - one thing I found helpful mounting the wheel is to keep it under your body and not out front too far ... so when you push with the left foot, lean a bit with the right shoulder and get that wheel moving while you bring up the other foot ... not a huge push or lean ... just enough to buy you time to get the other foot up onto the pedal ... then with both feet on .. standup and look straight ahead and enjoy cruising around in large circles .... scariest part is when you venture out onto a bike path and you're faced with oncoming kids or families on bikes ... ie staying in your lane .. lol. This hobby is life changing for the better.

I’m a scooter and ebike guy, I can see what this is going to be once I get going. A 30 pound thing I can throw in the trunk and go 30 miles at up to 22 is awesome. Great vid, hands down best beginner tutorial I have seen. I am a week into it and I've been out every day getting a little better each time. I had a lot of the same experiences as you. To be honest I came into it thinking I'd pick it up faster than I did because I'm usually a fast learner with stuff like this, but it took me a while. Don't get discouraged out there! I like your comment about muscle memory, this is a whole new thing for your body to learn using muscles that you wouldn't use much normally, and you'll get fatigued fast when you are starting out, so go in short bursts each day. I also found that controlling direction was a big challenge for me until I paid attention to shifting weight to the opposite foot (turn left by pushing gently off your right foot). I'm going to practice your push off start technique because the start and stop is always where I still have trouble. One last tip is be prepared when you go up or down a steep hill for the first time because it is a really weird feeling! The wheel naturally stays upright so its like you're riding an escalator not a wheeled vehicle if that kind of makes sense.
@MrPhillipsTheChangeAgent3 жыл бұрын
You are so correct how quickly you get tired when learning. It’s like every muscle in the body is working so hard. The opposite pressure to turn is so correct as well. I like what you said about the short burst. I posted in a group or two and everyone kept saying they learned in an hour. Everyone does not learn that way. Most of the people I know take a few days to ride safely. Like you said the key is to not get discouraged. Everyone learns on their own timeline.

Day one for me and I'm using this video right now. Surprised how much energy it takes to learn but all of it's fun. Most other starter vids don't go as basic - just get on and get off - that's huge. Thank you! I don't seem to have good shoes for this and what you have on your feet looks just about right. What shoes are you wearing? Are they easy to find?

"Get of the wall" you didn't even know you was being deep! *Update* it's been 3 days and today I took it outside! The simple saying "get of the wall" helped me so much mentally made me more confident in learning how to ride. Just want to say thank you!! Plus your son was motivation too! I was like if he can do it than my 40 year old a$@ can do it too!

Great video. Mindset is very important. My first wheel V5f was a learning wheel and falling is part of the process. My legs were beat up and my wheel was beat up. I did judo, so falling is an option. I only stick a rubber bumper to protect the headlight.

Two things that got me on without falling off in 2seconds, I used a old persons walker and also tried a shopping cart. They can roll besides you allowing turning. I bought the same wheel he has as it comes with a protective cover. In an hour I was going down the street.

Superhelpful vid! Personally my biggest hurdle is just when you first time everything your body is so tensed up every single crack, ridge, bump doesnt get absorbed 😅 learning to trust your gear and yourself takes a lot of patience. might help to find a crack/bump/uneven terrain and just driving over that repedeately or how to slow down before it, after training the basics.

I learned in about 30 min in a big grass field. I just went for it, dropped wheel a couple dozen times and then just got it. Took to a running track and started learning turning there for several laps then went to greenway here in winston salem nc and rode about 18 miles....now im addicted to my euc. I ride a kingsong 16x. Disclaimer ive skateboarded for decades, and skate a halfpipe i have in my back yard so my balance is a bit better then your avg joe
