I love these videos purely for how Damien always goes on a ‘live love laugh’ rant and Gwenn just stands there looking like ‘Wtf is happening’ 😂

Additional Tips: A couple of great tips given to me were to move your feet slightly closer together (assuming you’re not in foot straps) and to point the new back foot slightly forwards. The other thing I kept doing initially was trying to twist my hips such that they pointed into wind. Seemed to take a lot of muscle memory reversal to persuade them to point forwards. However, once I got my head around this, toe side suddenly clicked… Good luck everyone!!! 😎

Ive been doing the same, twisting my hips to the right (I’m regular) into the wind, but that creates a very awkward position from which to pull in on the back hand. In fact it’s almost like I keep my left elbow at 90deg and rotate my shoulder down in order to generate pressure on the wing. I manage to go slightly upwind with this, but it’s probably better to keep hips facing forward so to have more pull with back arm. Thanks!

Thanks for the video! I found that it helps a lot to change the hand position on the wing when I'm going toe side to make the rear arm shorter and the front arm longer so I don't have to pull as hard. That way I can straighten the rear arm more and still get enough power

I need to get better at riding right foot first! Every board sport I've tried (Wakeboarding, Windsurding, SUP, Longboarding, etc.), I've been just fine going left foot forward, but barely able to control the board when I switch footing. I feel like I'm going to be doing a lot of toe side riding when I start my Wingfoiling journey this summer! Hopefully I can get the hang of goofy stance and foot switching!

As a new wing foiler, is it more advantageous to learn to ride toe side first or be able to switch foot first so you can move into your gybe??? Which is easier to learn? Keep the instructional videos coming....amazing content!
@DamienLeroyYouTube

Most ride toe side first as it feels more comfortable to them. Then the switch foot comes. In general.......

These videos are great! Next session I’m going to try going toeside for the first time! Maybe now I have a chance! I’d like to see a video on how to ride in the ocean. Every time I try I just can’t stay up on the board. It seems like if there’s enough wind to go winging, the waves are huge and I get knocked right down! I tend to stick to the back bays. How do you recommend getting started with ocean riding? What wind direction is best for it? What skill level do you need? Should I even try if I can’t jybe yet?
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube 3 жыл бұрын
John, We all have been there! Bays are great to stick with in the beginning for sure. Best time to hit the beach with waves is side shore winds. Anything on shore will be very challenging.... Skill Level, I would make sure you can ride back and forth and maybe jibe.. Will help a ton. You can try if you can not jibe but make sure you stop on your way back in before the wave break so you are not caught on the inside struggling. Better to hop off the board before the waves start, turn around and head back out... Then you are not wasting time getting hammered in the waves until you can make a jibe or turn. Hope that helps.....

Do you put your hands in the same place as heel side or do you for example place your front hand further back?
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube 2 жыл бұрын
Back hand can be further back and give you more leverage to grab more wind as it is harder riding toe side. Play with it, all wing handles and booms are different placements so move your hands around and see if you gain or loose power in the wing! Great way to find the sweet spot!

Guys, I have been winging for a couple of weeks, and now manage to go up on foil fairly well riding in regular stance. However, there is no way I can go up on foil when riding in goofy stance. Should I keep on trying in goofy, or should I remain in regular stance and try to go up on foil toeside? Keep on the great work !

Friend, Everyone feels the same way when you are learning. Switch is crazy hard. Just keep trying and you will get it friend. Takes time and repetition! Nothing wrong with toe side as well.

I am 85Kg, 190cm tall nearly 40yo, completely new to all this (although I can SUP). I don't really like windy conditions. In fact, the less wind the better. I am considering a 5m and 6m Duotone Echo and an Ozone Wasp. I cannot decide if I should go for the 5m or 6m. I am less concerned about which of the two brands. I will be purchasing second hand. I hear a few people say that the 6m is a bit of a pain as the tip catches the water easily. Any thought on what I should go for?
@johnboyd6000
@johnboyd6000 3 жыл бұрын
I’m 90 kg, 180 cm. I started on a 5m Duotone Echo with no winging, kiting, or surfing experience. I feel like my progression was slower due to the smaller wing, especially because the wind is not so strong here on the East Coast of the US where I wing. I just got a 7m Duotone Echo and it has been super helpful. It takes less effort and less wind to get going. At my height, the 7m rarely touches the water, and mostly when I’m pumping to get started, not when I’m cruising on the foil. You are even taller, so it probably will be less of an issue. I would recommend going bigger. You’ll probably progress faster, and if the wind is too strong you can get the smaller wing later.

Personally very satisfied with 5m2 AFS wing in light condition (14 15 knots) I am 86 kg. I have 10 sessions of wing behind me and 5 m2 is ok for me. Already quite powerful and it allows me to ride 2 or 3h ..with 6 or 7 would be only 1h I guess.

Can anyone help me with some toeside take off tips? Where I’m starting there’s a downwind hazard. I can foil out (upwind) but when I fall I have to make my way back to the beach. I can’t take off switch but think I could maybe get toeside takeoff???
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube 19 күн бұрын
It’s possible to take off toeside, but in my opinion it’s more technical than take off switch. So far, everyone I know that can take off toeside have learned the take off switch first. No sure someone can learn the take off toeside first

@ thanks so much! That’s really helpful. I actually had a good day of switch taxi yesterday and feel hopeful. In an ideal world I’d be learning on a bigger board but I’ll have to commit to the switch takeoffs on a 5’0”😩
