How long is the line to the sinker? does it get hung up alot while drifting? Use this rig for drifting and anchored or just drifting? Great video Capt!!!
@CaptOrlandoMuniz4 жыл бұрын
@@charlieoneal6865 Hello. Sorry for the slow reply (missed the questions when you posted it.) I normally make the line from the swivel to the sinker about 2'-3'. The rig can snag the bottom especially if you're not careful. If you are drifting, it is important to watch your bottom machine and watch the rod tip for signs that the sinker is dragging the bottom. Just reel it up a few times to compensate. Finally, the rig can be used both anchored or while drifting. Thanks for watching.

The only thing I worry about is kinks in the leader material wrapping it on the reel or even on a spinning reel where the leader bends around top eye a few ft from the hook

I’ve always been told to never hook a live bait through both lips, you are essentially restricting their ability to breath by opening and closing their mouth to force water over their gills.
@CaptOrlandoMuniz4 жыл бұрын
Maybe, but until we can ask the fish, it will be impossible to know for sure. I can only tell you what works for me. Over the years I’ve caught 1000’s of fish this way. In my opinion, the only thing that works better is bridling the bait. You can check out my video on this topic. Thanks again for watching and hopefully subscribing. Tight Lines, Capt. O

Is there advantage to the weight sliding along the main line because you’ve attached it using a swivel (and dropper line)? I’ve always attached via a loop that affixes the weight to the main line.

In my experience, they both work especially with long leaders. Tight Lines, Capt. O

Silly question.. .but with a 30 ft leader attached to the swivel. What do you do when the swivel reaches the surface? Just hand line the fish the rest of the way? Seems excecesive.
@CaptOrlandoMuniz3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, that is the how it’s usually done. In the future, I’ll probably make a video showing how to make a wind on leader that allows you to detach the sinker and reel the fish right to the boat. 😉 Thanks, Capt. O

Just join your mono or flouro to your main line. I use an Alberto knot to do this . i dont like all that jewelry on my line.
@jimdrechsel36112 жыл бұрын
Very instructional. Is the long leader to attract larger fish that are smart? I have caught keeper grouper with only a couple feet of leader. With the long leader is it a problem preventing the grouper from taking you into the rocks or holes? Thank you. Keep them coming.
@CaptOrlandoMuniz2 жыл бұрын
Hello Jim. The longer leaders is primarily for mutton snapper (usually leader shy). You could get away with a shorter leader for grouper. It also can vary with the location you are fishing and type of bottom. Tight Lines, Capt. O
@jimdrechsel36112 жыл бұрын
@@CaptOrlandoMuniz thank you for the response. What’s the idea of doubling up the end of the main line? I noticed you did that for both mono and braid. Thank you for sharing. Very helpful.

Just makes a stronger connection! I normally use a spider hitch or bimini twist.

@@CaptOrlandoMuniz I suppose if you were bouncing the rig off the floor then having a few feet would keep the hook line off the ground.
