I am a Rec diver who has a CCR. My CCR has a built in bailout. But now thanks to you I am ready to try your Stage Cylinder Band Kit instead of using DILUENT bottle on CCR. Thanks.

Thanks John, happy tp hear that as the Dil is very small for real bailout except vor VERY shallow dives. Anyway I would always recomend to see a good instructor to get you going with the stage. What I find very strange is that there is obviously instructors out there that teach CCR with the DIL as bailout - that is simply insufficient and dangerous. Safe diving and have fun!

hi,Achim what's the recommended average distance between the top clip and bottom clip on the stage tank? is there a way to calculate a starting point to where to place it in order to work out small adjustments as you try to achieve the perfect position? thanks for the videos ,i am learning a lot from you!! safe diving

Fantastic - I have just completed my ANDP course, and on my journey into the tech world, and videos like this are so valuable! I primarily dive sidemount, and would love to see a similar video for when diving in sidemount configuration. Also I know this sounds like a silly question (but you need to ask to find out right), but when keeping the cylinders clean, my cylinders have testing stickers plastered all over confirming O2 cleaning etc, are these not required to get fills, or are they optional and can be removed?

Nice and clear info as always in your video. Just a question / remark : you said that name (or initials) is useless on the tanks. But it could be usefull in case that you drop a stage or deco bottle... Or do you choose to take it all dive , even if it's much deeper than MOD ? (like most of the time in cave diving) Naming, in this case can avoid involontary bottle swap .

Moin, nice clip but what about the cam band height on the tank, how do you get the right trim and be streamlined?
@InnerSpace_Explorers
@InnerSpace_Explorers 3 жыл бұрын
the band position depends on the distance between the hip and the shoulder D-Ring. The position of the D-Rings dictates how the stages sits and therfore how streamlines it is. Lots of other factors as well - length of the clips for exaample - weight / Volume ration of the tanks, ,etc.

@@InnerSpace_Explorers thanks but either i am stupid or dont get you . We are talking about backmount or not? Only ask because what you mention should apply for sidemount, the BM harness/belt is much higher from the hip and waist line. Out of curiosity what distance do you have on yours(top to camband) can use as example as you seem tall.

Such a great and clear video, thanks! Would you consider bending that HP hose so much, a problem? Is there ever a risk for a hose failure with that sharp bend? How about those small hoseless brass-stem SPG's that attach directly to the regulator HP port?
@InnerSpace_Explorers
@InnerSpace_Explorers 8 жыл бұрын
HI Henrik, thanks. I never had any issues with breaking hoses. People keep telling me that there was a series from Mixflex HP hoses that had a problem but I personally never had one. The way it is shown it is really convinient to read them - which is a bit more tricky on the hoseless ones. I also found the hoseless ones I saw quite fragile - but there might be more serious ones that I never realized are there. If they are good quailty I would not see any roblem whith someone using them instead.

CoastalDevelopment - InnerSpace Explorers - ISE does anyone use the small diameter short high pressure on the stage? (Same diameter as the hose on the wing)?
@InnerSpace_Explorers
@InnerSpace_Explorers 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian, There are rumors that the short Miflex bursted - or at least there waas a bad batch. I never had anything like that - and I use some of those - and some rubber. I do not see any major difference and personally have no preferences here.
@IJ_uk
@IJ_uk 8 жыл бұрын
Yes. There were some bad ones in the past. My new stage setup has a 6" rubber hose at the moment, but the crimped ends are quite long and the hose kinks when it's not under pressure. It's a bit of a tight fit.... When pressurised the radius is ok. I do use the thin Miflex hoses, but not really noticed them on a stage. Thanks for your reply.

Hi Achim, Great films by the way. Just wondering if you think the short hp hose on the spg is under strain by the tight u shape? I tend to run the spg straight down like sidemount setup and don't any real problems reading gas content. Thanks again
@InnerSpace_Explorers
@InnerSpace_Explorers 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, Thanks for the feedback, The hose does not make any problems , but I usually replce them every year or so. A lot of divers release them when nit in use - I dont. The nice thing is that you can see the spg whitout touchiung it, or taking it up to have a look. that is the prime reason. the other one is that if you let it hang, it could get smashes if you dive multiple stages.

Hi, of course ISE teaches a minimum gas stragedy. The entire, so called "DIR-minded" diving is based on failure. So, the gasplanning for your bottomgas gives you minimum gas, that makes sure that you and our partner make it back safe to the next breathable gas. (in case of a deco dive that can be the 21 meter stop where the striken diver can switch to his own deco bottle) if all is good and the divers ascend without an failures and the deco gas is not available (for whate ever weird reason) the minumum gas allows the diver to doubel his deco time and sta on bottom gas. So as a rule ou can say that the next deeper gas alwas covers the higer one. hope this helps.

Thank You! Nice Video! One remark regarding labeling. You mentioned several times that "your name is not necessary ". I do not agree in a lot of cases. There is a great chance to interchange your tank, before the dive or even during the dive e.g. if you store them at a decostation or wherever. I propose to always have your name on the label. Not a good feeling if you are not sure if it is your tank which you have analyzed.

Thanks. well - yes and no, if I dive in a team and I really drop a stage somewhere (long cave etc) and the stage is labled and analysed acording to the protocoll, then I see who analysed it when and what the content is. And it will be one of my team mates´.. so I can live with that. The other point is. if we dive in a team and and we drop stages - then why would mine not in the same spot. on top it is unlikely that all stages , riggings and regs are identical - so I will be able to identofy mine most of the time. BUT - in fact I mark mine as well - more because I lend them to people and they forget to return them... So I have a small mark on the neck or the bottom really small - not to interfere with the marking - but if I want to check it is easily possible)

I agree. I often dive on boats with many, many tanks and more than one team. A small label with my initials allows the boat crew to bring the correct bottle which I have personally analyzed. Good video, thank you.

when choosing a stage bottle what valve should I be getting fitted, a right or left hand valve?
@InnerSpace_Explorers
@InnerSpace_Explorers 8 жыл бұрын
when you have the stage on you left side - the opening of the valve (or the forst stage screwed into it) pointing up (towards you) the knob should be on the left side. Remeber: left hand for the left side - right hand for the right sinde - avoid criss-crossing. (as a rule of thump)

What’s ISE's take on the new regulations (especially in germany and switzerland) regarding the M26 on stages with over 21% O2? If someone buys a new stage today, should it be M26? The argument of being able to switch regulators comes up often, but with proper gas planning, you should never be forced to switch a regulator from your backgas/bottom stage to your deco bottle. Thx and keep on rocking!

Hi. Achim speaking - NOT ISE. I would never compromise my safety and my options by a "rule" made by some person or group on a desk with no clue about the real world. In fact the rule is not new - I ignore it for years. Switching regs is an option but as you say should be the exeption if you follow the rules and murphy is not in a bad mood. But having only one size O-ring, one set of spares and being able to use every reg on every tank brings a lot of convininence and options when diving in a group and remote. ISE can not follow special rules as we are international and therfore the responsibility is on the instructor and the diver. WE of course recommend to follow the rules (although this one does not afect you as a private diver.. ) Ok? :-D

Hi Achim, thanks for posting this. Always nice to hear how other DIR-minded instructors teach stage rigging. Personally, I like the top hose band beneath the rigging itself so it is secured underneath. That way when I pull the 2nd stage out, the band does not come out with it. What are your thoughts with having the 1st stage hose swivel on the outside? I keep the swivel on the side closet to me to get maximum extension of the hose and less fatigue around the hose base. What advantages do you find with the swivel on the outside? Thanks for your time and thoughts!
@InnerSpace_Explorers
@InnerSpace_Explorers 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Tyler, Thanks for your feedback. What you descrie is for sure a possibility and I tried it as well. I like it with the swivel paralell to the knob from the valve as it makes the overall system less "snaggy" - but that although depends on the 1st stage used. with the scubapro and similar its like I describe, with the Apeks for example it is not as nice the way I do it. I although like the way the SPG hose is protected here. The probem with pulling lose my upper rubber band I never had - but mine are really tight. The reason I havethem on top is that it is much easier to pull them with heavy gloves when they are over the rigging.
@007Tydog
@007Tydog 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Achim! All of my stage regs 1st stages are Apeks DSTs and you're right I haven't found them to sit as nicely as my dive buddy who uses ScubaPro. What are your thoughts on Miflex hoses? I know some guys love them but I don't think I will buy them again. Too much memory and they really don't stow as nicely as the rubber hoses, in my experience. I agree with what you said about the weight characteristics. My AL40 oxygen bottle sits negatively on my leash, wish I had thought of that before buying the heavy Apeks. That makes sense having them more accessible with heavy gloves, but not something I have to worry about in Hawai'i! Thanks for your time!

Hi Tyler, I prefere the rubber hoses as well as the Miflex do not hold up very long if you use them heavily. Ultraflex seems to last longer. I like the color options for Vieo as it makes it easier to see what I am doing, then if it is black on black :-) Take care.

Very good video as usual, however, I have my initials on the stage, I do not want anybody to mix up my cylinder with theirs and end up diving on a stage that I have not personally analysed. Very much appreciate the video, but for me and diving on charters I just want to be able to easily identify my stages and other gas. Too late in the water.
What is the difference between a Stage and a Deco cylinder in Technical Diving and how to mark them.
