Hello Sir, I noticed the doubles wing you are using is the X-Tek 40 which I have been looking at. I have an X-Tek single setup system but would like to convert to twinsets. My question, I notice ScubaPro sells a 60 lb version as well, but with my steel LP85 tanks, even if I had another tank clipped on, I can't figure why really anyone would need such a large lift. I typically dive in a 3mm or 5mm wetsuit in fresh water and with a single steel tank, I rarely need any added weight. Thanks for the video! It was very informative!

8:13 The better tool to use for extremely close trimming of wire ties is an "electronics flush cutter" Search this in Amazon "iExcell 4.5" Side Cutter Diagonal Wire Cutting Pliers Nippers Repair Tool, Green, Chrome-Vanadium Steel" These are the smaller bench tools electronic technicians use to nip off the leads and and small wires while soldering components to an electronic PCB print. I have seen too many technicians not having enough controlled dexterity with a open blade often over running the intended cut and nicking other components. These style of "flush cutters" are externally handy for removing ties as well without damaging other wires, hoses and competes during the cutoff process. They leave a super tight clean cut at the hard of a wire tie and you won't feel any sharp edge after dressing the tie. Cheers, #SeattleRingHunter

At 16:20 you purge the regulator while you open the tank valve. I am trained in both CMAS and UTD and I have never ever seen anyone do it before. I got curious and found an instruction video from PADI showing the same thing, as well as a lot of debate online about whether it makes any difference to purge or not. Why do you purge your regulator and do you have hard evidence that it makes any difference? Kind regards Peter
@CoastalDevelopment
@CoastalDevelopment 8 жыл бұрын
HI Peter, good question. On some regs, if you just open - the force with which the piston is pressed to the HP seat leeds to a faster detoration of the seat and to a constant leaking. if you purge while opening, the pressure passes the seat and then the piston kind of glides smoothliy into the seat. in fact some regs are more vulnerable then others to this problem - but as a general recommendation it does not hurt.

You can use "twist ties" that break off when you twist the end and then you don't have to cut it with a knife.

Question about flex hoses. I've read that flex hoses can kink so much to restrict airflow. Only situation I can imagine this occuring in diving is once already donated long hose and buddy ascends v high (in a non-turret first stage). This is a slim chance, but I would value your opinion on this "risk", and whether you think this makes a rubber hose better maybe for the regulator hoses?

Hi some great videos . In this one and the single setup you don't use a breakaway on the primary regulator bolt snap. It there any reason for this? By looking at other videos it seemed like by using an o-ring between the hose and bolt snap someone out of air can remove the first stage when it's clipped off, just by giving it a pull to break the o-ring. What are your thoughts?
@CoastalDevelopment
@CoastalDevelopment 8 жыл бұрын
HI Ian, we do not recommend breakaway clips as they tent to break when you dont want them to :-) the probem is the O-RIngs that get brittle when exposed to UV light. as you donate what you breath, the problem is basically not existing - and if you really have to donate - or someone need to go on your clipped longhose you will notice that we have the boltsnap attached roughly a hand from the second stage. this way you can breat it while clipped in case you have to and someone else can also grab it. Give it a try works great.

Nice video. Will certainly keep it in mind when I'll buy my first set of completely new regulators. Question one: you dive with a twin-set. And only one presure gage. A specific reason? Second question: you don't dive with a dry suit? Since you only use an inflator hose for your wing?
@achimschloeffel8154

Hi Christiaan, thanks. staYes, we use only one SPG on the left side as it shows the preassure in both tanks (isolater is always open) in case you shut off (Gasloss that you cant stop) it indicates where the loss is (right side it stays still, ledt it drops) Also in case of roll off in a cave it is a good indicator for trouble. a ssecond one would on top be an additional failure point and another piece that has to be stored, needs a D-ring, etc. we dive dry, but use extra suit inflation in form of a 6cft bottle mounted on the backplate as it is heliumbased bottomgas most of the time. hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. Clearifies some things a bit ;) I've just ordered a new bottle with dual cranes with the purpose of getting both regulators completely seperated; I'll use this vid as a reminder for my upcoming set-up.

is there any problems using bungee to tie bolt snaps onto hoses?
@SeattleRingHunter
@SeattleRingHunter 2 жыл бұрын
Bungie wold not be as reliable in holding the bolt snap position ver time, by nature is dynamic and stretchy in nature. Nylon cave line being used for tie off here is a static line that you can tighten securely for a secure hold. You want a long secure marriage of the bolt snap to the hose to stay locked to the position you have placed it. Tech diving is based a lot on muscle memory and having things precisely located so over time and experience with your kit you tend to remove a lot of task loading during stressful sustains. He wants one fist length of spacing and six months to several years late after much use and seawater he still expects his bolt snap to be exactly where he placed it in this initial setup. Hope that make since to why these dives are very precise and calculated in how the gear is being rigged here. Cheers, #SeattleRingHunter

What is your opinion on Poseidon regulators?
@CoastalDevelopment
@CoastalDevelopment 7 жыл бұрын
Well - great quality regs with a long history but due to special hoses, high intermediate pressure and serveral other "special features" they do not really fit our equipment philosophy (interchanchable, low MD, standard parts, etc) The old models have a high exhaling resistance with can cause CO2 problems at high workloads.

Does the wing have a pull dump on the power inflator/hose assembly?
@CoastalDevelopment
@CoastalDevelopment 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, no, never. There is always the possibility of a stuck valve or a ripped of one (seen that a couple of times) and then you have a hole on the highest point of your setup.

@seikibrian8641
@seikibrian8641 8 жыл бұрын
If you're not using a separate (argon) bottle, you would put the dry-suit inflator hose on the left tank's valve. The left valve only has the short regulator hose and the SPG hose as shown here, so there are free low-pressure ports available.

No need to have and extra hose for inflating your BC. With a manifold as long as you can get gas to a working regulator you still have oral inflation of your bc as an option. He's also running separate 6cf bottle specific for drysuit inflation. Cheers, #SeattleRingHunter
