I don't understand the floating hook. Does it actually put pressure on the fish or there to keep the bait in place?

I think it is to adjust it to the size of the bait at the time of baiting. You can have it fixed if you adjust it to the size of the bait from beforehand.

it is not nescesary to secure the hook, and to change baits without changing lines

Straylining as per title. Bait has either a light sinker or no sinker and will sink to the bottom slowly

This half hitch knots don't work, they come undone as soon as you stop pulling on it.
