Also want to say to all the beginners...I know crossovers seem impossible but YOU WILL GET THERE!! In the beginning of March, I never thought I would ever be able to do them! Just like Deb says...stay down low at first and practice, practice, practice!! Much love to all of you!!

I’m an expert at being in a constant state of panic so I’m already half way there 😂 Thank you for sharing your experience. I always hear your voice in my head when I’m skating and I’m constantly chanting ‘Down with the butt Up with the gut, snack area nice and tight! Down low! Bend the knees!” I get strange looks, but it works! 😂

Yes, that's the S-A-F-E-T-Y chant skatey dance! when I hit a scary section of trail, or a bunch of wild scooters are heading my way and dogs on flexi-leads are all over the path and there's a hill.... I revert to small, sticky feet bubble skating and chant (silently) "down with the butt, up with the gut!"

This video helped me SO MUCH! I’ve been relearning roller skating since January, and back in my high school days, I skated around my garage in circles crossing over like nobody’s business. Now, not so much. Been practicing standing crossovers, bubbles, scissors, rolling on one leg. After I watched this video - I got low. My outside foot crossed, and magically, my inside foot (which never knew what to do it seemed) just lifted right up ready to place down and cross again. And that was on my non-dominant side! I’m so excited! Thank you Dirty!!!

i just wanted to say thank you. obe started maybe a month, month and a half and your lessons helped me. i want to skate outside but it's scary. today I've found myself a baseball court and try for the first time on it. trying to do those 20 minutes practice sessions now instead of going for hours at the rink, which hurts more than it actually helps. I almost finally got those backwards bubbles down today, hope next time I'll get them! and accidentally had my feet staggered while i roll over a mini twig. i was so happy to see how well that worked! i also I'm working on my "happy feet" and keep telling myself not to look down! i was starting to doubt myself, but now, even if it's very slow, i see my progress (example : it takes me less time to find my balance everytime now, I've realized fear was the issue and once i stop panicking, I'm better). i know this is a long post. but i just wanted to say thank you. (35 yo here, didn't skate in forever it seems) 😁

I used to skateboard in that area in Long Beach when I lived in Cali. Now I'm back in my home state of Florida and I've started roller skating again after 35 years away from it. I literally just last week was able to successfully do crossovers because of your instructional videos. I was always too scared to try them on my own because I kept looking down at my feet because I didnt want to get my skates tangled up. (I now know that looking at your skates or the floor in general is no bueno) Thank you for everything you do for the community!! ❤

I have been doing crossovers for a while now but I still get wobbly sometimes, especially before I am fully warmed up. So I immediately get low like you say to, and just ride it out until I feel steady again. What I love about outdoors too, is the freedom to practice clockwise skating. My clockwise crossovers are actually stronger than the counterclockwise ones.

I came back to skating, and right now trying to figure out cross overs, (among other stuff like backwards sk) I could do it (self taught) with inlines, which was the last type of skating I did like 20 years ago, and also used extensible quads when I was a little, never artistic skates like the ones I got now, and now it feels so different with quads doing cross overs. Your videos are very useful. Also let me point that baby toe of left foot is last to leave the floor, which I think comes natural because we are also with weight mostly on front outside edge

I totally bailed doing this 2 days ago, first skinned elbow of my adult skating life! lol (I knew I should have looked for my pads) One direction I'm super awesome at it (apparently muscle memory from my youth) and the other can't seem to manage, not sure why. But now I've found your video and I'll try again! I wish I could practice every day, we get a lot of rain up here in BC and don't really have anywhere to skate indoors. Thanks for the tips!

I have really started to understand how this works...I'm past the fear for the most part, and it's a much more fluid movement... What I struggle with now is controlling the speed, as this move helps me pick up momentum. It's been fun picking up lil' nuiances each time I practice. Thank You for making these tutorials and imparting all that good skating knowledge. Also, dropping low has saved my skin more than once 😻

More outdoor tutorials, First lady of Skate (please)! Something about being able (as a beginner) to SEE how you creatively troubleshoot tiny outdoor obstacles that really trip me up when I navigate the great outdoors of LBC... That is so helpful. Love your recent outdoors videos because you consider the terrain/environment as another element in the mix. Would love a tutorial on how to get through obstacles like sand, cracks along the path - big and small, etc... There are so many outdoor elements that are tripping me out that I need to learn about!

Watching this for the second time... thank you!! Time to practice this today! (P.s. what a difference adjusting my trucks made! I feel so free when I can just lean into a turn instead of step 😅) ❤️R x

Right!? Sometimes when I teach a new student, I look at their skating and realize "oh they just need their trucks loosened". I loosen them and ... BAM! They can skate. I am like "Well my work is done here. Bye bye." LOL!

I was learning crossovers really good when I was like 10 before I stopped skating and I am trying again to relearn them. I am good at one side (i used to only rink skate and we all know rinks only go one way) but the second I got low in the "oh shit" position my body remembered exactly how to do it. now time to practice the other side!
