How to Root Galaxy S9 or S9 Plus! [Exynos/SuperSU/Magisk]

For those of you who want to root your Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9 Plus, here's a step-by-step tutorial on how to do it. PLEASE SEE STEP 19 UPDATE for the updated RMM State Bypass file for newer firmwares otherwise you will end up in a bootloop, thanks! Downloads & Step-by-Step written tutorial:

Thank you so much for another incredible tutorial. It took me a few tries and I had to wait 7 days in between each time. But that was only because I was so impatient and tried to root like I would for any previous phone. Once I slowed down and followed directions, it worked properly in one try. Edit: Nevermind, I'm sorry. For whatever reason, after installing magisk successfully and rebooting, I got the same awful boot error. I have no idea how to fix it. I'll try again next week...

You didn't mention that when you turn oem lock on it's going to reset the phone automatically and when it resets it's blocking you from oem unlock I couldn't do nothing can you help and will I lose Samsung pay and what else of yes I don't know why do I need to root I bought it for that

My phone didn't reset when I rooted it first time but second time it did and I had to wait 7 additional days. It seems if you signed into Samsung account it resets.

Annyeong, sooo this tutorial may or may not be helpful (I'm attempting it now) but question. Is there anything particularly different with your Samsung USB Driver file that I can't go on a mirror site and download it? I ask because when opening the .exe file on my windows , my administrator access automatically prohibits me from opening the file even if I run it as administrator. Is that supposed to happen on updated Windows 10? I wish I could just do all this on my Mac -_- , great video though hyung!

Tried this about 18 months ago but messed up, bricked 🙈 finally got round to flashing stock firmware today and got it back 🙂 thank you for the tutorial 👍 going to have another go tonight to root again 😀 I wanted to root because a while back my phone went off and when restarted it had lost all my memory 🤬 photos, files all gone, don't know why to this day. Hey bud. Not sure if you still read these comments but I need a bit of help. Firstly, not sure if it matters but the twrp recovery file for S9 I downloaded is not .md5. I change the extension and it doesn't verify the checksum correctly, so I just leave it as .tar like it comes from your website. Anyway.. I boot into twrp recovery and go to wipe the data. It says "Failed to mount '/cpefs' (Read-only file system). My OEM Unlock was definitely ON as this happened to me a week ago and when I rebooted the option disappeared. Any ideas on what's happening?

I have sucessfully done it with my G965F/DS with the modified Magisk. But this past hour, the phone has been stuck or frozen twice now and had to force restart. Update: phone freezes when it gets to always on mode Update: it freezes everytime when the screen display is off even though always on mode is off Update: reverted back to stock rom, phone is useless. Keeps on freezing when the display is off. Going to wait for another 7 days again -_-

I've also been having problems with some sort of Sleep of Death type issue, despite having successfully used this rooting method on the original shipped rom with no issues. Also, somewhere along the way my IMEI numbers got zeroed out and I can no longer connect to my carrier for calls, texts and data. I'm going to try the "SOD killer" app to see if this helps stop my phone from going into sleep and hopefully freezing every few minutes. It's REALLY bad!!!

I've tried with both, on both the latest and previous stock roms. The SOD killer app (in foreground mode; haven't tried background yet) seems to have fixed the freezes; however, I'll have to disable it and see if the freezes come back. If others are having the same problem with the most recent rom updates, it could indicate an incompatibility with some code somewhere in the flashed root files. If this continues, I might need to go back to the original factory foreign rom as a last resort.

I used you guide but when wiping data i got some lines in red but it continued to wipe it and i got root access with Magisk 16.3 modified by jasec but when the phone goes to sleep it will freeze and i have to reboot using "volume down+power". I did enabled OEM unlock and the phone wiped everything. I have now restored it to factory default again and now i can see the OEM unlock is enabled. Did it happen for you too? Should it work to root the pgone if OEM unlock is enabled?

MAX @ 7:16 when you get into TWRP for the first time it ask whether you want to allow modifications or leave it WO. I don't know why you skipped this screen. What option should we be using there? problems come when u enable the oem..it's gonna start formating automatically and shutting down everything and restart again and back to former state..which you dont mention..now i have to wait another 7 days..its sucks yes..which u should mention it edited : it didn't go back to former state..oem is unlock but the RMM Status is Pre-Normal ( status which block any illegal binaries to be install in the device ) which should be fix..gotta wait for 7 days i think..to change the status

IDK what u mean by unlocking the google play market. If what you're asking is if there is some way all the Play Store apps will be Free because you root the answer will be NO. Also, you will not be able to get official updates from Samsung. You would have to go to XDA and download custom software based off of the official Samsung releases. Keep in mind that once you root certain features can NEVER be used again such as Samsung Pay, Secure folder and some other features. I personally have rooted my last 10 phones but so far I have been happy with this phone w/o rooting it. I found a good no root ad blocker and there isn't too much bloatware

i thnk my s9 is 7 day oem lock. how to bypass it is there any way? or what to do when i am 7 day oem lock? can i use mobile data and dont reboot for 7 days? or i have to check firmware updatest on first day and then after 7 days check again without disconnecting internet on my samsung phone?

Hey...i have my sd card filled already..if i take it out..and put a new sd chip in and transfer the files from my phone memory to the chip..will i be able to transfer the data from the sd card back to my phone and then put my old sd card back in ? Andddd as i type this out i think i can.

So I follow all the steps and get up to Samsung Anti removal tool, but my phone restarts, shows the opening page and then doesnt do anthing else, the screen goes black. I have rooted my phone before and had no issues (except for the sleep issue which i fixed), but then I kept getting an error (only official binaries are allowed to be flash) after installing a module on Magisk. So I gave up rooting my S9, until now. But now I'm getting the black screen issue. I can get back into TWRP recovery and I followed the same steps exactly, but obviously it didnt work and here I am. Could someone please help me out with a guide on what I should do. Thanks! Edit: I also followed the newest tutorial using the RMM bypass file thing.

hey man , just wanted to know if there was anyway you could help me out . i installed twrp recovery onto my samsung note 5 after ulocking the bootloader and after that installed floyd one ui . it had said it was successfully installed on my phone but my phone is getting stuck on activating your device. is there a step i missed ? i can still go to twrp recovery and wipe if needed but basically wanna know if the phone is bricked or if there is something else i can do

Hello, Im new to Samsung since I had HTC Phones before. After I've done all These steps and my S9+ is rootet, will I be able to just install zips with twrp? Or do I have to consider flashing other zips like e.g. dmverify? Can I just go into twrp and Flash something like xposed (when it's available) like it worked on HTC Phones? Hi, thanks for the information but I went through restoring to stock firmware which completed successfully but when I reboot the phone it's now stuck in a loop of blue screen saying installing system update a a second or 2 and then reboots back to installing system update. I can't turn the phone off and I cant get back into download mode either. All I can do is force reboot (Vol down and power) but that just reboots the phone back into installing system update. Any advise would be greatly appreciated Thanks

Tried that couple of years ago on my s9, but it came with plenty of flaws. Half of the stuff doesn't even work on custom rom like camera certain sensors etc. Knox was tripped so forget about any samsung related app. End up with new motherboard because of that. Don't want to share my experience with all risk of data been stolen with custom rom.

Just reinstall rom by downloading completely new firmware or restore firmware on twrp bootloader

I have a thought regarding step 11 on the reboot after twrp flash...why can't we just unclick autoreboot... after AP flash, just pull USB and boot recovery old school way? Would not that work too max?

I went through all the processes. Everything worked. Booted up and was installing updates when the phone froze. I had to do a hard reset by holding Volume Up+Volume Down+Power to get it to turn off. I restarted it and now I’m getting a “only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed”. Why did this happen?

You most likely have a U model meaning it can't be rooted because of a locked bootloader
