By all means a detailed tutorial for rotoscoping in Motion would be much appreciated. Also I don’t particularly enjoy AF but I hear it’s better for roto. Is this true?

Motion version definitely coming soon! Yes, roto work in After Effects is far superior to both Motion and Final Cut Pro. However it’s also far more expensive haha! But if you happen to have access to Rotobrush within after effects, that is 100% the route to go. Appreciate you watching!

My method is to go halfway thru the shot, set keyframes, then find a spot halfway between the first frame and the middle, set key frames there, and thus keep sub-dividing in setting key frames, the idea being to let the machine do as much of the work for you as it can.

To solve the problem of having multiple masks in a footage, I created a compound clip with multiple copies of the same clip inside. Each one being a part of the body. Worked fine. Hope it helps.

Unfortunately there aren't any plugins that I am aware of that do a very good job rotoscoping. BUT if you really need to do some roto work and want it to be more automated, I have heard good things about this website - runwayml.com/ -- They have a free trial version for SD video, so you can get an idea of how it works!

1,000% agree that AE’s rotobrush is faster and easier. But this tutorial is not for AE. It’s for Final Cut Pro. Additionally, the old fashioned method of Roto is extremely necessary EVEN WITH Rotobrush. Because Rotobrush is not perfect yet, and there is often times so much cleanup to do that it requires the prehistoric method of cutting stuff out frame by frame. But I’m definitely with you. If someone has access to rotobrush, then by all means go use rotobrush. Thanks for watching even if this tutorial wasn’t useful to you!
