I belive this movies were done just to have updated animation on flash backs, thats the only use they have anyway. To me is just interesting how much this movies feel like live action adaptations without the live action part, but all the rush scene, cut material and unnecessary changes just get you that feeling

These recap movies only serve two purposes: To get movie budget animation cuts of big fight moments To have 16:9 updated art style versions of scenes we wanna flashback to in future arcs

Recap movies in general need to go. It's just an easy way for studios to make extra bucks without having to come up with new material. What kind of person would just watch a recap instead of the arc? If you don't care enough to experience the whole story, then you probably don't care about the story itself. And for us that do know the arc, it's just a downgrade. There is no audience for these kinds of things.

​@@ShutUpDenny My general guess is that this kind of recap movie is made so that people don't have to rewatch the arc, and just can refresh themselves in another way. But that's such a niche market of people that I really don't think catering to them is sustainable. This movie does adapt the iconic moments to a fresher art style which is cool...I guess, but I'd rather take a filler that at least tries to do something new than just experiencing a summary.​ I'll watch any other OP movie over this one because while most of them are pretty meh, this one doesn't give me anything. If I want to relive Arabasta, I'll just binge the manga arc, it's like one extra hour but I get a lot more enjoyment when I'm not being shown a glorified PowerPoint. If it's made for the people that want the hype moments but don't care about the story, fine...I guess. I'd personally argue that it is a worse experience in almost every regard (except animation) but if the person just want to dudes punching each other, this one might be for that particular guy. Unpopular opinion: I love recap movies and TV specials. I am a manga only reader, so I don't have the patience to literallt watch 1000+ episodes of a show when I have read all of it. Recap movies are a great way to enjoy these stories fully animated. Since manga readers already know the story you can just enjoy it for what it is, a bitesize adaptation / summary of an already familiar story.

Movie 9 is a lot better than movie 8. Partially just because there’s a lot less stuff to cram in.

fun fact: this was the first movie to be dubbed in english and may in fact be the first thing funimation dubbed into english that is one piece related but I am just asusming that cause its the first example of the funimation dub I personally saw and so I could be wrong this is, indeed, the worst one peice movie. other movies have problems in story, tone and characters at points, but THIS movie is a literal waste of time. It cuts out too much set up, build up and context to do the story justice (as we ONLY see the main baroque works agents in their fights aside from Mr 2, and we don't even see how the fights even START and instead just jump into them midfight) and, let's be real, you can ALREADY see this arc by WATCHING THE DAMN ANIME OR READ THE FUCKING MANGA. THIS MOVIE IS POINTLESS. PEOPLE SPENT MONEY TO MAKE THIS THING. WHAT WAS THE POINT!?
