I mean that’s definitely part of it, but I wouldn’t say it’s “just” that. People are genuinely upset about her working with Luke. I’d be willing to bet had the song NOT been produced by Luke, it would be doing better. Her association with him is single-handedly poisoning her career, but she doesn’t seem to care.

She seems to have an identity crisis since Witness. During Witness, she marketed the album as purposeful pop and a woke album, but the content was more of a personal album rather than purposeful. Smile she wanted to just drop music for fun. We all thought this would be the norm because she wasn’t doing numbers anymore. But then 143 era already shows her being desperate for a hit again with her collabing with Dr. Luke and dropping different versions of Woman’s World. I honestly don’t know what happened to Katy after Prism. She lost a lot of the zest that made Teenage Dream and Prism so great.

I dare say after Roar and Prism was released it cooled off for her Dark Horse was only huge in certain territories but like it fell off quick successful tour and aesthetics....but Prism fell off and she didn't get back on

Not a fan of Katy, but grew up with some of her earlier work (I adore Prism) and I was so disappointed to see her working with Dr. Luke again Like, I was so ready to stan her new era... I loved the concept of 143, but her association with Dr. Luke made me so sad and it ended my hype with her new era I'm not even talking about WW as a song, it's really bad... It's not a bop 😭

The reason why her "purposeful pop" doesn't do well is because it feels artificial and manufactured. The fact that men wrote this garbage and directed it is just proof that she isn't trying to uplift women, only herself. I hope she has future success. She's a talented vocalist.

No excuses Miss Perry😂 (Although given higurashi's theming and subject matter it being directed by a woman who directed shoujo/josei aka made for girls/young women material that handles dark and mature subject matter was actually an educated decision so maybe that was a poor comparison).

Imo most pop is like this especially kpop but people have huge blinders and nostalgia glasses on to hide how manufactured and artificial the whole pop music industry is and has always been. It is slightly getting better with tiktok giving genuine artists hits but also there's a lot of industry plants getting hits too unfortunately

Boo, Billboard didn't change ANY rules in terms of Katy Perry. She had five number one hits off of her Teenage Dream album. She then had another number one hit off her Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection reissue that was released two years later and included three new songs (along with some remixes). Billboard had a rule long before Katy that charting singles added to a "reissue" or "enhanced version" of an existing album would not count towards the original album's achievements. That only makes sense.

She's been struggling since witness and to colab with Dr. Luke post #MeToo...... that's career (redacted). Especially on a quote on quote feminist Anthem. However, she could do a proper comeback and remain a main stay. And you're right. She should have done a sound change for an era. And woman's world is the worst lead single. Oh well, fire the management team otherwise shes gonna disappear from the charts, and that's sad.

It's interesting to see the "defense" of the music video, but I think it was pretty clear that the first "Rosie the Riveter" part of the video was meant to be satirical. Everyone expected the "reset" when she got smashed by the rock, but it wasn't much of a reset at all. It was confusing and chaotic (not in a good way) and still maintained a heavy dose of the male gaze. Which means that the supposed satire at the beginning completely fails. The video was an embarrassing mess.

Katy aperrys legacy is one album thiugh like Come on Over by Shania Twain ?! Like yes Prism and one of the boys were held by its lead singles .... But goodness me Teenage Dream was a fluke ....shes an artist defined by whats going on in radio and whats hot ... Its overrated at the time in 2010 was mixed to negative reviews designed for radio play you know?! Its very much 2010 compared to her peers she didnt keep up ....Swift, Gaga anc Rihanna are a presence in the industry in three different ways ....katy perry just isnt

Eh perception. The 80s sound dated to most by today’s standards but many would say it doesn’t, so yeah. It’s all perception. Honestly the entire Teenage Dream album itself is somehow less dated sounding than Woman’s World to me.
