We seem to have packed our schedules full of meetings...but how many of these are productive?
Whether you are a sub who has been to way to many pointless meetings or a GC hosting these pointless meetings, let's get back to hosting productive meetings and improving this process in the construction industry.
Who am I?
I am the owner and founder of Well Works.
www.livingwellworks.org
Well Works was built to equip individuals within the construction industry with the "essential skills" (i.e., soft skills/ people skills, trust, respect, motivation, and communication) necessary to build successful people, projects, and teams.
The Well Works Leadership Development Program (WWLDP) is the current main program offering and is built to equip front-line construction leaders with tools and information to efficiently and effectively lead our teams within our fast-paced, high-stress industry. This mobile-based, micro-learning program is specifically built using first-hand construction experience to work with our hectic schedules (not against them) by providing actionable resources relevant to everyday construction challenges without ever having to leave the job site. Since it is mobile, it is available nationwide

So happy to find you! I've been in construction for over two decades and there is def a way women run projects vs men. Your approach mirrors mine and then some so I look forward to watching all your content.

Cool video, I especially liked the part about where to sit, I had never heard of the 2nd power seat. I wish everyone who organizes a meeting would watch this first!

Amanda, I never knew either! The book with this information is a wonderful resource for non-verbal communication and highly recommended. It is called "The Silent Language of Leaders". Thank you for being a subscriber!! You may see some lag in videos as it has been quite hectic but hope to get back with it after mid January.

Highly helpful for improving my communication skills, which could use some help as a designer/ artist/ architect. Thanks!

You're very welcome! While it is still in the development stage, I may encourage you to take a look at Well Works Leadership Development Program for construction (including our AEC partners). I also have an upcoming free presentation/discussion on May 10th on instinctual leadership. If you are able to make it we would love to have you join us (registration is at the bottom of the home page)! www.livingwellworks.org/.

If you are concerned with what chair you are sitting in to show you are the boss or the leader, seems like the priorities are mixed up.

Dave M, LOL. I would agree with that comment. If we are concerned about it, then we most definitely have our priorities mixed up. On the other hand, if we are aware of it, it can be very helpful to maximize the effectiveness of our communication. As we all know, communication is hard enough, so simply to have awareness of non-verbal and instinctual, subconscious social ques can only help us right? An interesting activity is to observe and notice peoples seating preferences in different meetings AFTER everyone is already seated. And to see how those meetings playout (what the intent was, how information was communicated, was it a good meeting or did the 'leader' just need to boost their ego). It's interesting and fascinating what we start to uncover when we start paying attention and listening to what is NOT said, just as much to what is said. (Similar to bids for a project...exclusions can be just as important, if not more so, than what is included).

@@thegirlinthehardhat when I anticipate a meeting will get heated because of a dispute for example I try and sit next to the person who will be against my stance. Trying to show how we aren't teaming up on them and wish to work it through together. Police do this during interrogations to assist with getting confessions also.

Nice work! A great example of how the information can be used. Now if only I can remember to do this next time...continuously learning and working on it...appriciate the application example as these can be so very helpful.
