I feel many programs out there are more interested in crushing dissent than teaching good information. You seem to be the opposite so thank you!

You nailed it - the important thing is growth. We often get lost in subtleties of programs with percentages and ratings of effort when the important aspect is to grow stronger and smarter! All of these programs have their pluses and minuses. I would think it best to go with the "forever" program types until you hit the practical peak and then talk to the smart folks and more advanced lifters to get some research on what program will get you to the next phase of growth.

Great video! Personally I ran GSLP for a month then hopped on a beginner 531 template. I'm enjoying the higher volume way more than an LP even though weight on the bar progresses "slower"

I have always wanted to just try a heavy day/ light day (upper lower split). 3x3-5 on heavy day. Then 4x8-10 a couple days later. For progression I’ll just add weight when I reach the upper rep range with confidence. Deload on the 4th week. Then reset and try to add some lbs and do a little more each cycle.

Bromley, are you at a point where would you be comfortable sharing an estimated release time frame for the Peak Strength book? Is that still on track?
@AlexanderBromley3 жыл бұрын
It's still coming. I put a lot of time and energy into prepping for this show, I kept up with filming but put other projects on the back burner. When I get back in May, I'm back to pounding the pavement. Look for July or so for another installment.

@@AlexanderBromley cool. I know you’ve got a lot happening atm, I’ll catch when it comes out, but I’m looking forward to it. Base Strength really cleared a lot of things up for me. I spent way to long trying to hammer out fives over and over again. I’m at the end of the second phase of the volume / intensity from base strength and my numbers have gone up. Added 65 lbs to squat and 50 lbs to deadlift. And best of all, all my issues have cleared out, rotator cuff, elbow etc... Thanks for all your content.

How long would you have someone run Starting Strength before transitioning to Greyskull?
@AlexanderBromley3 жыл бұрын
Assuming you've ran it long enough to actually grow, I would say until you stall out or you find it so tedious you want to jump off a building. Whichever comes first.

Do these principles and methods work for other exercises? For instance, what if my goal was to have the strongest calve raise? What's the best programming for something like that?

With the calf raise, you could probably train it every day.

I know you're a big fan of volumizing in base phases, but how would you feel about a base phase with intensification like this: Week 1: 3x12 , easy weight Week 2: 4x12, add weight Week 3 add weight week 4 add weight Do the same for 10s and 8s. Weight increases depending on how easy it feels (esp for variations)

Week 1 reps x weight Week 2 same x +weight Week 3 -reps x +weight Week 4 same x +weight .... Week ? Test pr Deload and start with new pr is something basic that can work
@kirby74753 жыл бұрын
It doesn't really matter how you structure it. As long as the program progresses in some way, you're good. If you know how to use MS excel you can dot in the numbers and make a graph, making it very easy to see if you're going to make progress.
@sposey24603 жыл бұрын
Whe you read his book, he actually suggests that with a range. For example: Wk 1 3x10 @ 60% Wk 2 4x10 @ 60x65% Wk 3 5x10 @ 60-70% I liked doing this, because I found I could increase weight not only week to week, but set to set based on how much better it felt as I progressed
@aparthia3 жыл бұрын
@@sposey2460 Yeah, but I'm not interested in the volume approach he does and that you also showcase. I said as much :)

@@adgcih1689 Why reduce the reps? Not like you can't pick a moderate weight W2 and just add 2.5-5 kg every week a bit similar to smolov.

Another awesome video. I disagree on one thing though. You do learn from progammes that don't work! But yes I think a big thing is to drop something that's not working - after you've given it a reasonable chance of course. So ie don't do the same thing for a year or two with no progress!

If it went really well for you, think about if it is more important to experiment and try something new or continue on progressing with something you respond to. Experimentation is valuable, but there is also an 'if it aint broke' principle that applies as well.

@@AlexanderBromley I understand. 14 years I’ve worked out, never chased strength and no direction really until this past year when I was asked to do a powerlifting competition. Now, chasing strength has renewed the fire inside. So I’ve never followed Linear or starting strength. Started my journey with Conjugate. Wasn’t sure if I should switch every few months. But thanks for the solid advice.

Really good overview and rough roadmap of different programming. What's your opinion of RTS programming and Emerging Strategies? They tend to be pretty complex and I wonder if you think that's unnecessarily convoluted, or if they're really onto something?

I actually have a review of his RTS manual on Patreon. I plan on getting to Emerging Strategies soon. Short answer: yes.
