I prefer boring...not notching unless absolutely necessary.... except if I'm boring old work, I prefer to bore further back in the stud. People love to use 2" screws, so if there's nothing behind it, I go like one more paddle bit back from center. So it's more like 2-2¼" into the stud.

My first time doing this in my home I used a piece of string tied to the wire. I vacuumed the string through the hole and gently guided the wire through.

Since you’re cutting and patching drywall anyway, you might as well make the cutout large enough so that the drill can fit in for easy drilling

Or you could use a simple right angle drill attachment. (No cell phone needed!)
@arod74042 жыл бұрын
@@bobjones9727 but you still have to cut & patch, so what I said still applies, if you gotta cut, cut out a larger section to make it easier
@bobjones97272 жыл бұрын
@@arod7404 Because larger sections require more taping and mudding to repair. Cut out a smaller section and use a right angle attachment to make it easier.
@arod74042 жыл бұрын
@@bobjones9727 come on, more mud and taping, really lol? Yes, if you’re cutting out a 4’ section maybe, but a cutout that’s a few inches larger won’t take that much more material or effort. But hey, you do you and I’ll do me and we’ll just leave it at that.

I peel back the baseboard notch the studs ,run wires use nail plates no need to patch drywall since baseboard will hide everything.

Thank you for this great video! I definitely prefer this method over notching. I work for an electrician and sometimes have to do rough estimates, so I came here out of curiousity, so I can better understand fishing through corners. I learned a lot in this video. Very succinct, yet also very informative. I appreciate your efforts. Thanks a bunch!

?? Your video assumes you can get behind the drywall with a drill, which you can’t without tearing out a larger section of drywall. Cutting out those two small squares in the corner is the least amount that would have to be removed. A right angle drill attachment is a better option.

Your cam also comes with a fishing hook. I also like the chain and magnets that are in pull rod accessories.

Thanks for the video. For those of us wanting to run through the studs at the corner by making a cutout on each side of the corner, I used a right angle Dewalt drill and I had to remove about 8 inches from each side (leaving 1 inch of drywall next to the stud for the patch) to make the run work (size of drill head plus short spade and then longer spade bit). This appears to be a complex task for a finished room, especially if you cannot go above or below (i.e. concrete garage with second floor ADU).

What about when you have printed wood paneling instead of drywall? They don't make the panels anymore so I can't patch or replace them. One of the nice things about the wood panels is that I can see the nails/joints and I can actually feel where the studs are by pushing on the wall. I can hear them by knocking too. Hmm.. I suppose if I cut the hole low enough I could cover it with backsplash or small corner shelves or something. Notching is terrible for structure.

In some situations it is better to route the wire through the attic or basement/ crawlspace. Requires a bit more wire, but can eliminate the need to patch drywall.

Should be the same on the right. If you cut out around the left stud after it you will have access to feed through the 24” spade bit.
